IvyTunes: Ain’t No Party Like a SoCal Party, Especially When It’s Some Harvard Kids Doing the Singing

"SoCal Party" has a mid-90's vibe to it, a sort of ska-punkish feeling that I haven't heard in some time. It's a paean to high school hedonism in the Golden Land:
Lead singer Theodore Bressman thought up the song after hearing about Los Angeles private school parties from his friends.
SoCal party was written, ironically, in a class about the Italian Renaissance… Anyway, I've been to a few parties in Southern California, and the point of the song, much like the point of the Renaissance, is not to accentuate religion, but rather to celebrate secular cohesion and the glory of human interaction in a consequence-free environment."
This song is basically about the life of the celebutantes on The Hills: going from party to party, fighting with kids from rival Los Angeles private schools, sitting out by the swimming pool, trying to get with a hot Asian girl.
"SoCal Party" is a rough cut - it's a low-quality production, and the vocals sometimes get drowned out by the guitar - but it's also hilarious and sort of catchy and these guys know the cardinal rule of mediocre bands: they don't take themselves too seriously. Vampire Weekend they're not, but they're pretty fun.

So this song is a joke, right? No seriously, they couldn’t have been serious when writing this. It has to be the worst piece of trash I’ve ever heard.
Here’s an idea for IvyGate: Put this up against Penn’s Chord on Blues and see who gets voted for worst musical achievement.

Of course it’s a joke you idiot! You must have transferred into Cornell from a state school, like 20-35% of your student population!

Filligar and Prospect 11 are both better than “Vampire Weekend”.

I’m all for jokes, but Teddy Bressman’s explanation makes him sound like a douchebag.

Lori, Teddy Bressman is a man among men, a genius for our time.

If people say you can’t be successful, cross them out of your life right now.
Lori, you’re just jealous you’ve never sounded that intelligent while joking in your life in reference to Teddy’s quote.

why has no one brought up the fact that the name Broviet Union is politically charged and rather hilarious?

It’s a pretty sad day when the idiots who read this blog can’t recognize an obviously satirical and incredibly funny homage to pop punk. From the song itself to the rationale behind it (not to mention the greatest band name of all time), people should be celebrating it, not looking for yet another forum to make annoying, bitter and embarrassingly negative anonymous quotes on the internet.
