Yale, can you feel the excitement? It's secret society tapping season! Last night Tonight is "pre-tap," which is when society members alert desired members to their sought-after status, and we have here an exclusive leak on Skull & Bones' list! Pre-tap-ees get a week to choose whether or not to accept. Should any decline, our tipster says the alternates are
Meghan Murphy, Andrew Mangino (Editor in chief of YDN), and Michael Losak, in that order.
So, if the last three really want to be Boners, they now have a hitlist and estimation of how many of their peers they have to destroy to get in. Someone should make a reality tv show out of this.
As for the likelihood that the above is true, well, your guess is as good as mine. Yale-based readers can hash it out in the comments. But I googled the first guy and found an article about his "Patrick Bateman-approved bachelor pad," so that bodes well.
UPDATE: Whoops, tap is tonight, not last night. Apologies to confused tap-ees and/or anyone who burst into tears because they thought nobody wanted them. You have a whole new 24-hour cycle to wait anxiously through!

Knowing the 08ers, I can’t help but come to the conclusion that contrary to popular belief, S&B DOES engage in line-tapping. Afam house, AASA, football, M-swimming, W-laX, and ydn(!!!) seem to be going strong. Yawn.

i talked to a bonesman who says that the list is pure fiction. they’re not mad about it, though. if anything it just serves as a red herring to throw off other societies. but it does suck for the kids on this list who aren’t getting the tap.

ditto “nope.” i’ve also heard from bonesmen that it’s a fake list. that doesn’t necessarily mean that no one on the list is going to get tapped because a lot of these kids are pretty impressive.
i think it’s funny that all of this came from a juicycampus rumor that anyone could have created. if this is a prank, it’s a mean one. a lot of these kids are going to get their hopes up for nothing.

Simone Berkower has achieved a lot in her time at Yale. She’s a true shoo-in. However she’ll probably have to turn down her tap as I just heard she’s agreed to star opposite Matt Damon in the fourth installment of the Bourne films. Not a big loss for someone like her though.

That’s actually hilarious. None of the people on that list (maybe one if I missed something) got tapped last night. Ned Mitchell is actually ‘07 and was in Book and Snake his senior year. Evidently someone spoofed them, I hope it was one of us.

are you being serious? why would being on a fake list preclude someone from being tapped? their primary goal isn’t secrecy… it’s getting the best people.
the only way that these kids would get sabotaged is if OTHER societies decided not to tap them because they assumed that bones would.

It’s not much of a meritocracy anymore, it’s all taplines. Most of these happen to reside in legit positions, so some merit remains because of that… but secrecy is a bigger deal than at the height of the societies in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Membership was a much speculated, social aspect- the activities remained secret, but the tapping process was way more transparent and merit-based. Sure, Darius Dale (or whoever the football/DKE tap ends up being) is a big name on campus, but if it was still all about “getting the best people” there are dozens of better qualified people. You can’t find a greater bastion of anti-intellectualism than in some of the big sports frats (and to preempt the haters, there are obvious exception to that… the crew tap is extremely legitimate; Vogelsang is proof of that… same with Righi and swimming).

I didn’t think this was supposed to be a networking club as much as it was a group of already important people who could make connections even without the club.
