Great Excuses of Our Time: Zeta Psi Never Read Sign
WE LOVE YALE SLUTS-gate rumbles on. The Zeta Psi pledge photographed holding the sign, Giovanni Christodoulou ‘11, chooses a unique defense:
“I never even read the sign,” Christodoulou, a wide receiver and defensive back for the Yale football team, said in the interview. “They gave me the sign, and I held it up.”
Of all excuses, this has to be the one we least saw coming. Rumor has it the football star is also in trouble for wearing his team jacket during the misadventure, though we find it hard to believe anything on his body is more problematic than that bandana. Then again, it would suck to have bad hair in the one picture that gets you on the cover of the school newspaper and blasted across a zillion blogs, so we understand the dilemma.

Isn’t that what Romney said when pictured next to a woman holding a sign that said, “No to Osama, Obama, and Chelsea’s Mama”???

And to think Gio was the man who scored Yale’s only points in The Game. Expel him and it’ll be 37-0 next year.

Give the kid a break. You really think that, when he woke up that morning, he knew he would be holding a sign saying “we love yale sluts.” Please. Don’t blame some clueless freshman pledge based on hearsay because most of you don’t actually know the facts….
January 25th, 2008 at 12:11 pm
bring back daily ragtime!!!!!

Umm, all the facts I need are there in the picture…
And I don’t follow your logic AT ALL. You’re saying that if someone doesn’t wake up in the morning thinking that they’re going to do something, then they shouldn’t have to take responsibility for it? That doesn’t make any sense. Get an education.

Gio is a really good kid and as a pledge, he probably didn’t read the sign. Give Gio a break!

Goddamn, that’s some controversial gang signs they be pullin. At least the guy that was throwing westside had watched an episode of Fresh Prince or two, but the kid with the peace sign? Needs more white-audience-marketed hip hop culture, for sure.

i think he’s decently hot - i’d fuck him, as long as he lost the bandana before bed.

Wait, which part is the hearsay? The PICTURE of him holding up the sign? Do yalies have some secret definition of hearsay that us non-yalies can;t hope to comprehend?

@ Bob Dylan: Nope, just a Dartmouth one.

Today’s episode is brought to you by the letter PSI
IT”S NOT A GANG SIGN!!!! That ‘westside’ sign is what Psi looks like (the Greek letter that’s in the fraternity’s name, for those of you who still can’t make the connection). Yes, they’re tools. Yes they acted stupid. But no, they were not acting as fake-thugs (as much of a ghetto as New Haven actually is). Throwing a frat sign in a frat picture should be the least controversial part of this picture (despite the number of commenters on this site in the past few days who have held otherwise).
A picture of the letter Psi can be found at http://thesaurus.maths.org/mmkb/media/png/Psi.png

first of all i would like to say i know gio and he would never do anything to disrespect women in anyway. this whole situation has gone way out of hand and to be honest me as a women wouldnt get offended by this it was just a joke and im sure he or none of they guys knew it will get this out of hand. and if the girls werent “sluts” then they wouldnt be so offended they should learn just to brush it off. so simply get over it if it wasnt for him yales football team would be no where.

This is really stupid. Feminists today receive a bad wrap because of women who think that by arguing about every issue they find offensive they’re going to earn respect. Feminists are viewed now as whining, irrational women because let’s face it, how is it rational to argue for equality when all you’re doing is whining about how certain forms of expressions should be suppressed or censored. This whole issue is completely stupid because there really isn’t an issue here. Did they do something illegal? No. Did they attack anyone personally, using slander or personal references? No. Was anyone hurt by this picture? No. Did anyone suffer economically or mentally because of this picture? No. People were just offended, just like some people are offended by curse words or by anti-religious statements. Does this mean we should ban all that is offensive? LOL @ anyone mentioning an ‘education when they honestly think a democracy can work without contestation.

To top off this cookie as well, I’ve met Gio more than a few times and I can personally say that while I don’t like the guy in the least bit and am probably biased against him personally, it would be a blatant lie to say that he is a chauvinist or was actually serious about that sign. People are completely overlooking the fact that this was part of a pledge for a fraternity, and during pledging you’re living under a rock if you don’t know what pledging entails. Some of the things pledgees have to do are downright ridiculous, but they’re only operating on a system of “customs” for hazing. This wasn’t a serious picture or a political statement. It was a very basic pledge task. Get.over.it.

Gio has always been an asshole in more ways than one and his bad habits are starting to catch up with him. I really hope he gets his act together now before he gets into the “real” world. I really do.
March 5th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Hey “not a fan” sounds like you are envious of Gio. He’s an awesome athlete and a great kid. He does have his act together. You are pathetic.
