Reminder: Submit Disastrous A Cappella Videos For Our Tournament!

Reminder: Submit Disastrous A Cappella Videos For Our Tournament!

Since our declaration of war on Sex and the Ivy a cappella Tuesday, we've received enough delicious YouTube submissions to feed a third-world country. But we want to feed AMERICA, so send more! These videos are obnoxiously easy to find; just search anything in Google Video, like "hey" or "bum bum" or something, and at least the first 37 videos will be of Ivy League a cappella troupes being stupid.

Missed the original post? Too lazy to click the link? Understandable. Quick catch-up: IvyGate is holding an 8-team "Worst A Capella Group in the Ivy League" tournament all next week. Competitors will be chosen based on one embarrassing/poorly edited YouTube submission of a performance, and we're not ashamed to use these single clips as qualifiers for a group's universal shittiness. So please send all YouTube video links to ivygate@gmail.com by TOMORROW EVENING.

Here's a sample from one of the submissions we received. Showing it now has no bearing on whether it will make the tournament or not, it's just... well hopefully you'll understand why we're holding the tournament after watching. This one gets REALLY good around 1:12:

Wait till you see another group's "Ducktales" video!

So, as always, I was listening to itunes as I read through the blogs in my google reader. The song I just put on pause so I could watch this video? Santeria, obv….I went back to the Sublime version real quicklike though.

  2. vdg Says:

It actually took me a solid 30 seconds to realize that they were singing Santeria, it was so bad.

  3. y'10 Says:

    wow.
this is what happens when anyone can form a club. honestly, each school should only be allowed to have one group, hold mass tryouts, and maybe then a group could be assembled with some degree of talent. which was certainly not present in….that.

  4. Brenton Says:

This def. Has to be top 10 worst arrangement, choreo, song delivery and scat I’ve ever seen. Intonation is actually decent. But… wow.

  5. Nell Says:

THIS GROUP IS TERRRRIBLE and is an awful representation of a cappella at cornell!! whenever I see them at a group concert it’s unbearable and even embarassing to watch. this is the performance where you leave and go to the bathroom/ refill your nalgene with vodka. we have lots of very talented groups here, and it’s a shame that people will think of this video/group and associate it with all cornell a cappella.
there are talented people here, I promise!!

  6. H Says:

Does anyone have video of the Harvard Notables? Because they were the worst thing I’ve ever heard in my life. And they only sang show tunes.

    That Cornell video, though… Jesus.

  7. Tom Morris Says:

Oh my. The same group also has an a capella version of “Wonderwall” by Oasis with a guy beatboxing in the background (also on YouTube - it appeared at the end of the current video). I’m trying to decide which is worse.

  8. j Says:

“I went to a school called cornell, ever heard of it? And I was part of the a cappella group called, “here comes treble.”

    ~andy bernard, The Office

please tell me that this group is real…

  9. ex cap Says:

The pain was worth it to hear, midway through, the a capella-men ask “Who’s Your Daddy”. Like they would know.

  10. @j Says:

we actually have “Nothing but Treble” at Cornell.

  11. Cornweill Says:

Way to turn an awesome song by a really passionate Longbeach punk group into a smash up of a bag of Wonderbread (white of course) and a box of Crayolas. Bopping up and down and making some ridiculous Fosse gang pose made it even worse. Never would I have imagined that “punk ass” could sound so Kindergarten. This deserves to lose simply because they didn’t try to preserve any of the character of the original song or band.

  12. Will Says:

Please don’t take this an an example of typical Cornell A cappella. We were pretty ashamed of them, too. The group was pretty much formed by a bunch of kids who got rejected by the other groups. Here it is, 6 years later and, just like a scorching case of herpes, they just won’t go away…

  13. oy Says:

they sing it like it’s a song for a cartoon!

  14. fred Says:

is the guy in the topmost picture with the red tie the same guy that does those prangstgrup pranks at columbia?

  15. Girl Says:

At least the main girl singing is good looking. You have no idea how rare that is at Cornell.
