EXCLUSIVE: Yale Secret Society Taps – Scroll and Key + Wolf’s Head

Yes, it’s that time of year! Through an anonymous tip, I am happy to provide–for your delectation–the 2010-2011 tap classes of two of Yale’s first-string societies: Wolf’s Head and Scroll and Key. Although we can’t vouch for 100% accuracy, we’ll put our editorial weight behind these lists based on source credibility. Not much editorial content to add: either you know these hot young future oligarchs, or you don’t. (Or, like me, you don’t go to Yale. Sorry, we’ll put up a post on Dartmouth on Thursday!) Who wants to be America’s next top secret society member? These Yalies do:

Scroll and Key

  • Silia DeFilippis
  • Abraar Karan
  • Ka Mo Lau
  • Andrew Gu
  • Jackie Delligatti
  • Katie Bolling
  • Stephen Feigenbaum
  • Cory Finley
  • Elisa Gonzalez
  • Grace Needlman
  • Zach Rotholz
  • Emma Sokoloff-Rubin
  • Michael Boyce
  • Jill Hagey
  • Ben Stango

Wolf’s Head after the jump, and some insights from our tipster:

Wolf’s Head

  • James Wyper
  • Caroline Nash
  • Chris Magoon
  • Rhiana Gunn-Wright
  • Gabrielle Karol
  • Allie Ossa
  • Ellis Ludwig-Leone
  • Kwaku Osei
  • Rui Bao
  • Andrew Kolmar
  • Mike Jones
  • Kate Berman
  • Thomas Meyer
  • Victor Wong
  • Garentina Kraja

Our tipster adds that two for-sure Bonesmen will be Kate Grace and Paul Needham (current Yale Daily News EIC.) Apparently, Skull and Bones has had a difficult year securing taps.

As for Scroll and Keys, he/she observes a stark absence of Yale Daily News editors, who have traditionally marked a strong showing in the society. Same goes for Herald editors. Anyone with thoughts on the list or more info on these power players, let us know.

Stop this crap about Thomas and Stango. They are both great guys who do great things. End of story.

What about that cutie Max Walden? He’s sooooo powerful and feral. Surely if anyone should be in Wolf’s Head, it’s this powerful young wolverine.

Why would they turn down Bones?

Why would they turn down Bones?

Because Bones is no longer the clear top choice. Bones, Keys, and Wolf’s Head are all on about the same level of prestige, quality, etc. It really comes down to what type of experience you are looking for. Each has its own distinct way of doing thing and distinct goals for the experience.

Wolf's Head has been the society of choice for African-American students since its 1970 delegation was tapped. Kurt Schmoke, a wolf and present Senior Fellow of the Yale Corportion, will help attract the sort of achiever that will continue a tradition Schmoke himself help start, namely, Yale juniors of African-descent avoiding the elitist and racist shadows that darken Scroll and Key and Skull and Bones to embrace the more than mild reformist character that informs W.H.S. And given most students of African-descent aren't Mayflower and 400 Family types, W.H.S. accrues an advantage versus Bones and Keys for leading juniors of African-descent who are fortunate enough to receive an offer to join any of the above-mentioned groups, or the lesser-known Elihu, Book and Snake, BZ, and Manuscript.
