Harvard Sophomore of Above-Average Physical Appearance

Sonia Dara, H’12, graces the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue this year — posing in a glamorous paisley bikini and, if you’re looking at her jewelry, nice jewelry I guess.

“I converted to an economics degree [...] that would allow me, if I wanted to, to integrate modeling [the fashion kind, not the observing-graphs kind] into it,” the academically inclined Dara says in the video available at SI‘s site, in which she dances with a sari and poses with “local women” in traditional garb. Too bad Dara didn’t go to Columbia and thus hasn’t heard of Edward Said! He would have THINGS to SAY.

Facebook espionage after the jump!

It seems that young Sonia isn’t living in a modelesque bubble at Harvard. She seems, from her open Facebook profile (maybe fix that?) to be charming and not too averse to making wacky faces. A girl who can both “smize” and hang out with friends — we’re officially fans!

Wow! Okay, we're shutting this thread down.

Its absolutely true that she is a social climbing bitch! Anonymous has it right on the money. She's not so beautiful when she is puking her brains out.
  • "Vitriol is a very big word"

This is true--when then-Candidate Deval Patrick was running for MA Governor, a student at a Harvard Q&A asked him a question which hinged on his knowing what "vitriol" means. Judging by his bizarre answer, he clearly had no idea. And he's a Harvard AB/JD.

But back on topic--seriously, leave this girl alone. You don't have to be happy for her (though it would be nice), but that doesn't mean that by default you have to take her down a notch.

VITRIOL IS A VERY BIG WORD.

Have any of the people bitching about negative comments ever been on the internet before? Honestly.
  • Come on
Whoa, people, why such vitriol? If you don't know her or virtually anything about her, it just seems totally out of line to be hypercritical. There's really no justification for it. Although I don't really know her either, she was nothing but perfectly friendly and nice in the few interactions I had with her in section last semester, and on that basis alone, it pains me to see people spewing such malice toward her online. Is it that hard to be supportive of strangers?

The negative comments I have read are more than just offensively false, they're downright mean! Regardless of whether it's jealousy, loneliness, bitterness, insecurity, or anything else motivating these comments, get a life instead of criticizing others for living their own! Thanks, bye!

Sonia is one of my very best friends from back home and it really hurts me to read these rude posts. I have known her since elementary school and she has honestly not changed one bit- she's still the same old goofy girl like you see in those pictures. She's humble, tenacious, beautiful, and works exceptionally hard for everything she gets. I know all of her friends are extremely proud of her because she truly deserves everything that comes her way. So, in other words, stop hating on my girl Sonia. Thanks :)

It sounds like all the haters need to get some action.

    Hoes have a seat.

Stop hating on her just because you have to work in Lamont Cafe and she can model and make a fuck-load more money than you.

Please, think about yourselves and stop hating.

Obviously, being Hindu and conservative doesn't stop her from modeling in a swimsuit and media-whoring herself because it's socially acceptable. I like her mediocre and completely unoriginal degree of self-respect and self-confidence.
  • H 10
Yeah, anonymous and HCrims, you guys need to chill out. She put herself in the public forum on the basis of outward sexuality, she has to deal with the ramifications. And I also agree, though she is very pretty, I've certainly seen more gorgeous women on a daily basis. And this is Harvard we're talking about.

To "annoymous"(Feb. 11th, 12:23am) and "Lol", TKP? Disappointed.
  • Lol.
hey anonymous. You should calm down there with the posts.

unequivocally, she is incapable of doing something like that and did not do that. the only guy she has ever dated and/or been was a friend of mine at harvard and i think they're still dating.

Absolutely false that she had sex with the president of a club to gain admission. She is Hindu, very conservative, and respects herself.

She's pretty but I know girls who could model just as well. And this is at Dartmouth...
  • HCrims
She goes to Harvard, she is a pretty girl, and a nice person. I highly doubt that "she just peaked."
  • HCrims
Second, HPurple. Some people clearly don't have the capacity to be happy for others. I know Sonia too, not well, admittedly. But she has never been anything but sweet to me!
  • HPurple
Know her well, actually - lovely girl. Very down-to-earth, secure with herself, and doesn't have any care to "boost her social standing" or to "make her classmates jealous". Looks like she incidentally has made at least one person jealous though [H'12]. Why criticize someone that you clearly do not know? Learn to be happy with the successes of others, and deal with your own shortcomings some other way.
  • She just peaked.

I'm sure Homi Bhaba still has something to say...
  • kinda sucks to have IvyGate facebook creep on you though, don't you agree?
  • Wow
    ...uhm...

Am I the only one that thinks that she looks like absolute shit?
  • H'12
She may be gorgeous, but she thinks way too much of herself. The sort of person who only talks to you if she thinks you're going to boost her social standing. She needs to stop being such a bitch and realize she doesn't need to try so hard to make us, her classmates, jealous... we're looking at her, aren't we?!
