Yale Grad Student Goes Missing

Annie LeAnnie Le, a graduate student at the Yale School of Medicine, has been missing since Tuesday. Surveillance cameras last spotted Le entering the Amistad Street facility at the medical school where she was a research assistant for associate professor Anton Bennett. Le is supposed to be married on Sunday.

The Yale Daily News describes the 24 year-old student as such:

Le, a 4-foot-11-inch Asian female who has shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes, was last seen wearing a knee-length brown skirt, a bright green short-sleeved T-shirt, brown shoes and a brown necklace.

Curiously, Le had left her purse, cell phone, and other belongings in her lab before leaving. She's carrying only her Yale ID card and does not have access to a car.

Anyone with information about Le's whereabouts should contact the Yale Police Department at (203) 432-4400. We will make any necessary jokes upon her safe return.

If not for the purse and phone left behind, I would have said runaway bride, obviously. Hope she’s okay.

I don’t get it – if she didn’t have any of her belongings with her and she was last seen entering a building, she wouldn’t have left the building without her phone and purse, right?

Does this mean that she was actually abducted inside the building?

@Y10 – The most updated YDN article states that there was an unexpected firedrill around 1 pm that day. So it’s possible that she could have left the building (or been taken from the building) undetected at that time – since everyone would have been exiting that building for the drill, it might be hard to pick out individual faces on the security monitors at that time.

I have to say that I’m disturbed that the Yale police didn’t bother to notify students until well after the original YDN story was published about this. Granted, you don’t want to cause a panic, but given the number of grads and undergrads that work in that part of campus, you also want people to be careful – or to be on the lookout for any sign of Le. Here’s hoping they find her soon.

Maybe she still thinks the fire drill is still happening, and hasn’t returned? Man. Wasn’t New Haven’s reputation improving, too?

  5. @Hmm Says:

Yes, “Hmm,” I’m sure she thinks the fire drill in question lasted over 24 hours and is still just hanging around outside unaware of this shitstorm. And a closing potshot at New Haven, too? Classy.

There was an incident earlier this year in NYC, where a cleaning lady disappeared while working in a building in the Financial District. Her personal belongings were found in her locker. Security in those buildings is tight; you have to swipe an ID card to get access to the elevators, and security cameras monitor every exit. Said security cameras did not show the woman leaving the building. So a lot of people were wondering a similar thing, i.e. what on earth happened to this woman? A few days later, her body was found stuffed in an air vent. :( This case seems to have some similar markers. Hope she’s found safe!

  7. Snob Says:

Obviously, she’s decided to leave Yale for Harvard. Smart girl.

  8. D '07 Says:

Looks like she was murdered. So, Mr. Estes, are you going to follow ^^Harvard Snob’s lead and make a witless quip about it?

  9. ih Says:

Why didn’t Yale notify students and parents that there was a missing person and that precautions should be taken? Another person could have been taken. Something should be done about this terrible lack of communication and caring for the students

  10. D '07 Says:

Uh… not only was Yale notified, but so was 90% of the country with a TV set.
