Help An Editor Out, Cornell
I'm packing my long underwear and trekking up to Ithaca for the weekend with Heywood, a band that'll be playing at Tammany Nightclub at Risley Hall tomorrow night (details below). I've never been to Cornell and need something to do to pass the time while they're rehearsing -- anything fun on campus or off this weekend? Leave your suggestions in the comments. I will document the good times for IvyGate, natch.
And come see Heywood (and, I assume, your friends). This is the schedule:
10:30 - Shadow's Dance Troupe
10:40 - Rhythmix Break Free Hip-Hop
10:50 - Whistling Shrimp
*intermission*
11:00 - HEYWOOD
*intermission*
12:00 - Sarah Rae Robinson
12:10 - Willis Improv
12:30 - Natalie Masis
12:40 - Ethan Cohen
12:50 - Anders

cornell alum – there is always drinking going on. collegetown is steps away with its very own liquor store as well as several bars.
or you can always head down to the commons and mingle with the cult people during the day, buy some hemp, browse some porn, and eat some crack infused diner food from the state street diner.

This is a poor way to run a blog.

Why has Ivygate become so shitty?
This is a new low.

Since when did readers become such fun haters?
Collegetown has many college student oriented bars in close proximity for a solid pub crawl. Hockey players can be found at Dunbar’s, which is quite a dive but with personality. Ruloff’s is a must go to pub for a truly Ithaca experience, and the Chapter House is a pub that hosts a lot of grad students. Nicer, more designed establishments include Stella’s and Olivia (not in Collegetown though). Of course late at night students flock to Dino’s to dance in the booths.
Downtown has an older and more local flair, as well as is the hangout for more of the artistic Ithacans. I enjoy Corova, Felicia’s atomic lounge, or the 2nd floor bar.
The restaurants in Ithaca are remarkable and I would take advantage of local offerings such as the vineyards and restaurants (like Dano) on the lake.
Have fun and enjoy a physical landscape that matches its academic rigor.

SpeakOfTheDevil may not have been nice about it, but he/she has a point.

Well, the Men’s Hockey Game promises to be a good one tonight… if you can get a ticket. If not, it looks like there is a jazz concert and a Shakespeare play being put on by the University at Bailey Hall and the Schwartz Center, respectively. And if off-Broadway musical theater is your thing, looks like there is a student performance at Barnes as well tonight.

Elsewhere on campus, be sure to check out the Johnson Museum of Art, Sage Chapel, the Cornell Dairy Bar, and the top of McGraw Tower during a chimes concert.
Farther afield, Gimme Coffee! and Just a Taste are a must in downtown Ithaca.
And if the weather is passable, consider a stroll around Beebe Lake or up by the Lab or Ornithology.
In Collegetown (which you really will not be able to enjoy due to the shows at Risley) I would recommend Pixel, Palms, and the Chapter House. The Chapter House would be a great place to grab a pint this afternoon.
After the show, see if you can’t get invited to an architecture party. Or just go to a frat party if you must.
Afterward, you absolutely MUST visit Hot Truck.

You will be decidedly bored, especially for the times you are going to be free.

Pixel or Rulloff’s for younger crowd, Chapter for older. Palms after 12. Johnny O’s, Dunbar’s, or Dino’s.
If you’re not old enough to drink, there’s a workoutdanceparty on College Ave somewhere. Just wander around looking for spandex and you’ll find it.

Hey Cato. Shut the hell up.

*Johnny O’s, Dunbar’s, or Dino’s for fratty bros and hos.

Hot Truck? CTB (College Town Bagels) has good peoplewatching and it is stuck in the late 90’s based on the last time I walked by this year, which is great!

Run like hell when asked for your wallet – wait sorry, that is my advice for a trip to UPenn.

this is ludicrous- can you at least cover the ridiculousness of the current USG elections and the all-out AEPi v. St. A’s war being broadcast on the comment boards of the Prince?

It’s sad that this site just sort of died.
December 8th, 2008 at 5:36 pm
RIP, Ivygate. We await the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
December 9th, 2008 at 3:05 am
God, ivygate sucks now. Just shut down the site before its entire reputation collapses for good. if it hasn’t already.
