Penn Hacker Also a Child Pornographer, Courtroom Crybaby!

Remember Ryan Goldstein, that one Penn '09 who hacked Penn's server, his downfall the ludicrously-titled FBI sting "Operation Botroast II"? According to the Philly Inquirer, he just got sentenced to 90 days and $30K. Apparently he would've gotten less, but the judge was totally weirded out by his kid porn collection, and how damn white he is:

The judge referred to the fact that prosecutors had decided not to charge Goldstein with child pornography in return for his cooperation.

But the judge said he found it tough to sentence another man, Derrick Williams, 32, of Philadelphia, to a heavy prison sentence the same day for the same crime.

"It seems very unfair. . . . I want to note for the record that Mr. Goldstein is white and Mr. Williams is African American and that adds to my discomfort," said Baylson. Both men had roughly 1,000 images of child pornography on their computers, the judge said.

Kid porn and racial politics. They'll get you every time! Anyway, in a deliciously Law and Order twist, Goldstein launched a rather creative positive defense:

Goldstein... told the judge he had suffered a "computer addiction" since he was 12.

He even shed some courtroom tears. Victim to Victimizer: The Ryan Goldstein Story: A Cautionary Tale of Young People on the Internets. Someone get this kid a Lifetime special, stat. Oh, and the part you've all been waiting for:

After the sentence was handed down, Goldstein was initially stoic, but tears streamed down his face as he left the courtroom.

Remember: It's not schadenfreude if it's a child pornographer. (Or so says Chris Hansen, and if you can't trust cable television, then really, what can you trust?)

I’m sooo happy I went to Penn instead of Columbia now. Hooray porn!!!!

Oh wait, it’s the horrible exploitive kind.

    Oh wait…

    Oh.

Still happy I’m not at Columbia, though, the prigs.

    Typical Penn student, I guess

For what it’s worth (and perhaps it isn’t worth much), all of those images were downloaded when he was a minor, and at that time were images of girls his own age. They were found on a computer that had been in storage for like six years.

I know this because…well, he’s my best friend. Also my roommate. :-p

    That. Is Gay.

Thanks for defending a child porno-lover.

The issue with child pornography is not the pedophilia involved, since that’s simply fantasy/masturbation, but rather the indirect exploitation of children via the support of child pornographers.

I have no issue with minors doing each other or getting off to each other’s naked pics. Downloading such images from a child pornographer and implicitly supporting child abuse, however, is pretty damn immoral.

you my friend are lying, among the images was that of a 13 year old boy that Ryan was exploiting, if you are his room mate than you are surely aware of it. If you don’t believe that, google search for digerati exposed

that was as recent as last year…

tbh I would not be surprised if you are Ryan posting that here as a way to possibly save face. I hope all of your classmates take a look at the Digerati Exposed files, then maybe they will have a hard look at you for allowing it to happen in your dorm

  7. Penn student Says:

Ryan did not get 3 months in prison – the Philly Inquirer got the facts wrong. He was sentenced to 3 months in custody, which is likely to take place at home.
