Radar Brings On The Ivy Hate In “Bad Education” Rankings
Here’s yet another reason for all you smug Princeton bastards to gloat: A group of college bashers over at Radar released a “semiscientific” (aka they bs’ed it like we all bs’ed our bio lab reports) guide to what they’re calling the worst colleges in America. The only problem? They’ve got some not-so-bad colleges on this list, namely Harvard and Cornell.
Harvard is no doubt blushing crimson from winning the title of “Most Overrated College In America.” The article goes on to bludgeon Harvard’s over-enthusiasm for giving out awards, honors, high grades and newspaper editorships. I was skeptical at this point, until I got to the next paragraph, which recounted “A mysterious scabies-like infestation last fall left freshmen scrambling out of their dorms and into Harvard Yard, dirty sheets in tow.” Does it make me a soulless and bitter Barnard girl if I snorted into my coffee? But that wasn’t all Radar had to say about Harvard: apparently most Harvard students graduate with undeserved honors, but when it comes to making sexy time, they stipulate that the student body is vastly underserved. What’s the only thing worse than being named “Most Overrated College In America?” I dunno, how about being named “runner up?” Poor Cornell! Must you always be a runner up to Harvard (kidding, sort of)? Emphatic yes, if Radar has anything to say about it, since they levy one lame “Cornell isn’t a real Ivy” joke after another, and then decide to go balls out with the claim that (according to collegeprowler.com), “Cornell is also home to the ugliest girls in the Ivy League—and that’s saying something.” Ouch! So…does anyone else find it ironic that Cornell’s campus just gained a Playboy rep?

Nice of radar to use the class of 2004 for honors statistics, because they capped honors to only 50% starting with the class of 2005.

our honors are capped at 30% (5% summa cum laude, 10% magna cum laude, 15% cum laude); what do the others have?

In Harvard’s defense, the scabies thing was only in Pennypacker (which everyone knows sucks anyway) and it turned out only 2 students had it, everyone else just had to take precautions and use funny-smelling creams. So, not exactly an infestation.

Surprised that Ivygate failed to mention that Radar also called out Harvard for The Prank in 2004: “Harvard fans unwittingly confirmed what many already suspected: ‘We suck.’” One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

Dartmouth is 35% – 5% summa cum laude, 10% magna cum laude, 20% cum laude

Harvard gave something like 80% of each graduating class honors before 2005. Now it’s down to 50%. But 50% of the grades given are A-range grades, so no surprise there. Sometimes grade deflation really is necessary…

I feel like you’re really missing something from your college experience if your college is just pushing you along and inflating your GPA. The best thing that Dartmouth ever did for me was kick my ass right from the get-go…I’ve never worked harder in my life.

OLD NEWS. In any case, check out the reporting credits at the end of the Radar piece: Jacob Savage’s name appears. Hm, what web site did he write for? Oh, right. IvyGate. So it would make sense that Radar commissioned him to write that piece.
So, in calling his Cornell jokes “lame,” you’ve criticized your own alum. And also, please stop with the “kidding, sort of” and the “kidding(ish).” It hurts us.
