Guest Editing Now Starting 6/23
Yeah, we decided to start a week late (on June 23), so deal with it, you little well-compensated, Financial District slaves. Look at porn instead. Watch Gore Vidal decompose in real time.
If you find yourself suffering during this lonely, IvyGate-less week, you could "reminisce" about the "highlights" of last year's summer guest editors. Or even better, share any tips or ideas for posts you have with the incoming slate of guest editors. Send them here.
(Seriously, send them tips. I don't want to read a million posts about Lena Chen this summer.)
UPDATE: Interested in taking a look at the new site design and giving feedback? Email us and we'll give you the sneak-peek URL.
UPDATE 2: Ruh roh! Management's mercurial hysterics have caused some coding delays. Twenty-four more hours! Promise!

Here’s a tip… I randomly mis-typed facebook.com a few months ago, and ended up on farcebook.com. The domain name, at that point, was licensed to the Yale Review. Now, if you go to http://www.farcebook.com , it just says ‘Coming Soon’.
June 16th, 2008 at 10:37 pm
Sorry, I meant the ‘Yale Record’

What happened to the MIT guy’s site overhaul?? Still no centered layout.. :-(
June 17th, 2008 at 9:12 am
So glad we made it 3 comments into the summer before someone complained about the site layout.
I think it’s fine.

Lena Chen: The Julia Allison of IvyGate.
Faithful Gawker readers should get it.

I love how the only IVY he didn’t apply to was Brown… he IS a smart kid!

Yeah, but you notice that he only applied to schools that are similar, with nothing individual? No small liberal arts colleges, no Brown. We wouldn’t have wanted him anyway if he’s not psyched about all the things that make Brown different from the rest of the schools he applied to.
June 20th, 2008 at 9:39 am
@B’10: Dartmouth IS a small liberal arts college!
June 22nd, 2008 at 1:04 pm
You keep telling yourself that, pal. The undergrad portions of HYP and D are all small liberal arts schools too. I know you probably meant the likes of Williams, Amherst, Middlebury, etc, but don’t pretend the other Ivies are all part of the soulless Establishment while Brown flourishes in individuality, open curriculum or not.

There is currently a movie shoot on Princeton’s campus, but everyone is being very hush hush about it. By all appearances though, it would seem to be Transformers 2, which recently wrapped shooting at Penn’s campus and was supposed to be shooting in Princeton this month (http://media.www.dailypennsylvanian.com/media/storage/paper882/news/2008/05/29/News/Transformers.To.Film.At.Penn.In.June-3376785.shtml) Does anyone know why it is so hushed up?

I didn’t get why this kid was considered news for getting into 7 Ivies. I mean, lots of Ivy leaguers got into more than one, and I’m sure there are several kids every year who get into all 8.
Plus, I’m sorry, but that kid really doesn’t help the stereotype that we’re all a bunch of nerds who look like we’ve not hit puberty yet.

I’m sure he meant well, but there are very few things that exemplify douchebaggery better than posing for the New York Post with all of one’s college acceptance letters… with Harvard’s on top. He needs to learn the fine art of SUBTLE H-bomb dropping.

Harvard gives one a certificate of the Admission offer? Really? Is it framing-quality?
June 23rd, 2008 at 1:46 pm
@CC’11: Dammit! I thought I had typed a “3″.
June 23rd, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Yup, the certificates are fully framable, which is nice for keeping over excitable parents happy, but lets be honest… when you graduate, which will you display in your office, your certificate of ACCEPTANCE or the actual DIPLOMA?
Mostly it just serves the purpose of rubbing our over-evolved Harvardian egos a bit.

It’s not that it’s ‘hush-hush’ persay, pretty much everyone knows what it is, but I imagine they aren’t going to put big bulletin boards up saying “We’re filming a major motion picture with some attractive stars, hey junior high kids on summer break come disrupt it!”

With an increasingly monopoly position in the search marketplace, this lack of transparency seems at odds with their value ‘do no evil’. ,
