Explosions at Barnard Dorm!!! Students Evacuate, Show No Sense of Perspective
In another sign of the coming apocalypse, last night students at Barnard's Sulzberger Hall were forced to evacuate their dorm following a series of pipe and heater explosions. From The Spec:
Near the TV lounge, there was just a small pool of water and there was fog in the windows," said Jill Ross, BC '11 and a resident of the fifth floor of Sulzberger. "I saw this brown water beneath my feet [in the stairwell] and thought, 'I really hope this wasn't a sewer.'"
According to The Spec, "Many Barnard students compared the experience of being evacuated down stairwells amid flooding, to the Titanic." At least, you know, they have a proper sense of perspective. But where's Leo when you need him?

why is this article here? barnard is most decidedly NOT an ivy league school.
February 14th, 2008 at 1:22 pm
As a columbia student, I must say that this article should not be here. barnard is not an ivy…make a separate “seven sisters” blog for that feminist school

Isn’t it obvious why this is here? Have you noticed the distinct lack of interesting news on this website this semester? Anything both somewhat noteworthy and somewhat Ivy-related is going on IvyGate right now for lack of anything better to post.

It’s especially silly because Harvard has had its own flooding to contend with this week and last–and this week’s, in Winthrop, was, in fact, sewage flooding.

As much as it pains me to say this, Barnyard is an Ivy. They get a Columbia degree at the end, and have to sit through Columbia graduation.
February 14th, 2008 at 4:33 pm
they really aren’t. even if i have to use http://www.ivyleaguesports.com or http://www.ivysport.com or wikipedia to justify this…barnard isn’t ivy. end of story.

now this is where i chime in on the matter of barnard’s place. is barnard a part of columbia? sorta. is it in the ivy league. i would say decidedly yes. barnard students play on the women sports teams of columbia, so i think it is fair to say that barnard is an ivy league school.

If we use semantics (the Ivy League is solely the athletic conference), then Barnard is an Ivy. Do they deserve to be grouped together with HYPPCBDC? Not so much.
February 15th, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Never say “HYPPCBDC” again. Thanks.

This post is offensive and should not be here. The debate has long been settled. Barnard is not an Ivy or anywhere close.
February 15th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
“HYPPCBDC” is stupid.

some cc/seas students live in sulzberger tower…

barnard is not part of columbia or the ivy league, but this article is relevant:
1. barnard is across the street / basically BFF’s with columbia
2. some cc/seas students live in sulzberger tower

Their girls play on Columbia sports teams, join Columbia sororities, take Columbia classes and get a Columbia diploma. They’re practically more part of Columbia than GS is.

GS students can also play on Columbia sports teams, join Columbia sororities, take Columbia classes, and get a Columbia diploma.
You fail.

Seriously guys, knock it off.. this is f-ing ridiculous
and to the rest of you who dont even go to Columbia, stop stating your opinions on our internal affairs

The self-love that Ivy Leaguers have is so tiresome…do Columbia undergraduates seriously believe that the education they get is better than, say, at Carleton, Williams, Amherst, or plenty of other schools? And does the fact that, say, Cornell is in the Ivy League automatically make it better than Duke, Stanford, or plenty of other “non-Ivy” schools? Nice introspection and analysis, Ivy Leaguers…

HYPPCBDC?
unbelievable

You guys are complete fools…Barnard is just as much of an Ivy…they graduate WITH a Columbia degree, take classes WITH Columbia Prof and Students, team up WITH Columbia NCAA, and Columbia students take classes at Barnard…It honestly takes a true coward to bash on Barnard.. If Columbia was so grand, than why take classes at Barnard?
