Daily Princetonian’s 132nd Board As Semi-Racist as the 130th, 131st Boards

The hucksters over at the Daily Princetonian have proven yet again that despite the fact that they are a multi-ethnic cult of pseudo-journalists, they still don’t understand just how this whole politically correct thing works (remember last year’s racist op-ed?). Today’s issue featured an article on the take-over of the newspaper’s 132nd Board. The headline? “Americans finally take back reins of 'Prince'.”

After three years of shamelessly outsourcing their administration to India and China, terrified staff members at The Daily Princetonian have finally thrown off the tyrannical shackles of foreign rule in an attempt to revitalize the U.S. newspaper industry. Breaking with recent trends, ‘Prince’ staffers elected an American male this year as editor-in-chief of their 132nd managing board.”
It also seems that these new Prince editors have proven that like every Prince editor before them, they don’t know how the humor thing works either.

Here’s a little play I’ve written about how this article came to be:

Prince staffer 1: How is this board different from all other boards?

Prince staffer 2: There’s an unfunny Jewish guy at the helm instead of an unfunny Chinese girl or unfunny Indian guy. It’s like, revolutionary.

After the jump: some of the article’s “nicknames” for the rising stars of the 132nd Board, including  Jennifer “cuddles” Hart ’09, Jake “High Life” Miller ’09, and Jason “Frist cookie monster” Wu ’09. Trust me, it’s totally worth it.

The superstars:

Ilya “sent from my BlackBerry” Blanter ’09 and Angela “don’t call me, I’ll call you” Cai ’09. They promise to answer their e-mail instantly in bullet-point format while providing comprehensive coverage of campus issues. Juniors Lisa “Béndélé” Bendele, Kate “redheads, the next generation” Carroll, Tatiana “Steinbergwitzman” Lau, Catherine “not Cathy” Mevs and Maxwell “muscles” Weidmann will be assisting in news.

Mike “can I please edit now?” Shapiro ’09 will be in charge of bridging the gap between print and web content while responding to panicked requests to figure out dp2007. Garrett “unilateral midnight launch” Marcotte ’10 will actually coordinate everything about the website that requires even the slightest amount of technical knowledge.”

Wow.

    did the prince endorse Obama?
or was he not american enough for them?

Oh, for God’s sake… get a sense of humor.

I’ll be the first person to bash Princeton when it’s appropriate, but this was just some good-natured “making fun of the new guys.” I don’t think there was any racist intent behind it.

Ivygate, there’s really nothing else going on, that you have to blow non-stories totally out of proportion?

Looks like someone took a dump in the pool

I’ve personally been victimized by Jason Wu’s anti-health food bigotry. Why aren’t healthy foods as good as cookies, Mr. Wu?

  7. Comments JeeZus Says:

@ Princeton 57 That is such a septuagenarian comment. Care to elaborate? Whom or what were you referring to when you grandly typed, “someone took a dump in the pool.” The Indian chick?

  8. Comments y10 Says:

He’s probably talking about the Indian chick…….

  9. Comments P'08 Says:

I think the Indian chick wrote that article.

  10. Comments Jeezus Says:

That is such a vulgar way of looking at people of a different breed and color.

    @ wha
How did Ivygate get this in the first place? If no one tipped them off, then the blog folks must have read the online edition; that makes one wonder why the Prince put it on their website…

The YDN prints something like this every year (and with slightly more offensive content), but they have the sense to keep it on campus and off of the internet.

The Prince will never be funny, no matter how hard they try.

  13. Comments Princeton ’09 Says:

They don’t call him Mr. Savage for nothing. For a publication that advertises a sense of humor, Ivygate’s again taken a good-spirited, self-mocking article and twisted it out of all proportion to an offensive and rather pathetic end. Yes, the article was written by the outgoing board, some of the very people whom it pokes fun at the most, and was clearly meant to harmlessly jibe the incoming board in a personal way with those epithets. If you don’t find it, or the Prince, funny, maybe that’s because 99% of the time they aren’t trying to be. Or has the Ivygate staff forgotten that the Onion isn’t the standard for college journalism. Ivygate staff, speaking of pseudo-journalists, apparently prefer to trash on actual journalism rather than pursue it themselves.

I see no reason for political correctness in special “humorous” issues of college newspapers.
