Harvard Music “Sensation” Makes Weirdly Mediocre Music Video
We bring you the “Body Glow” video from international music sensation “Petros,” a.k.a. Peter Shields, Harvard ’09. Well, he’s not really an international sensation, though we’ve gotten several emails telling us this video is all the rage in Cambridge these days.
The song is quite un-good and the video has this fake-Catholic guilt thing going on (come on, Petros, America is so over that) as Petros and his cohort rub glittery sweat all over each other and the girl has some kind of bloodied seizure and then goes to a church and then – hey! – there’s Petros like half taking off his shirt at the beach and all this interspliced with gratuitous Catholic imagery and medium-okay looking Harvard girls trying as hard as they can to dance and – wait! – at minute 1:30 the girl touches the back of her head only to find Petros’ jizzum!
With the production values of a third-string mid-90’s R&B music video as choreographed by a third-string college dance company, the whole thing is pretty strange. The problem with shooting a music video at Harvard is that you have to use Harvard girls, who even at their prettiest aren’t exactly booty-shaking material.
“Petros” is obviously self-obsessed (his Facebook profile includes many, many links to his successes; according to himself, his main job right now is “marketing this hot chick named Brandi Carlile” but he seems more into marketing and linking to himself than to Ms. Carlile) but I still sort of wish him luck. You’ve got to hand it to “Petros”: “Body Glow” took effort, ambition, and a total lack of shame. And it’s only bad in the way that most cultural output is bad. It’s not specifically Harvard bad. Carry on, Peter. Carry on.

I think I need to vomit.

haha…oh that is so typical of mr. shields… unfortunately, he is both completely serious and utterly shameless.

This article is much more insulting than it is humorous or witty… the talents of the new IvyGate editors (as has been pointed out MANY times over the past few months) are severely disappointing.

seriously, people? the song is fun. and it’s pop. no one was trying to further the reach of the music world with this one.
what’s with the aesthetic bitchery, though? The dancers are quite good (some of them dance professionally, according to facebook). Why is it necessary to make comments about the overall look of Harvard girls? As if Harvard girls are at an attractiveness disadvantage as compared to their counterparts at other colleges.
give me a break.

My first thought was that the glitter probably took forever to clean off of everything. He’ll probably find some in his boxer-briefs for months.
Otherwise, I think the production is truly what the problem with the video is. It’s like the producer went through an epileptic seizure, cut the video, snapped out of it, and decided it was artistic. Did the producer go to Brown?

h 09: The dumber the girls, the hotter they are. This is pretty much universally understood (and who knows why, perhaps people without beauty try to create beauty in other ways, ie academically, or beautiful people feel they don’t have to work in life…it’s interesting to think about). Go to Kansas State or something and look around. Your mind = blown. Dumber = prettier. Horribly unscientific, but amazingly, unfailingly true. Ask your dumb friends.

I think he’s funny, and I wish him success.

Check out Petros’ website http://www.kinstoneentertainment.com He’s got a couple more video clips, including a performance of him live. While he needs work, you have to give him some credit for putting all that together. I wish I knew how it could get onto iTunes though

GGGAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!
Future not to all men: Attempting to portray an agonizing/grieving emotional state by putting your hands around a) your head, b) your chest, c) out to the sides; AUTOMATICALLY MAKES YOU LOOK RETARDED

he IS on itunes! and considering he does all the music and video himself its pretty impressive
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:22 am
Yeah, he worked hard at it, but honestly, ir does suck.
October 23rd, 2007 at 8:35 am
it succeeds at what its trying to be - mindless carefree pop.

Yes, he worked hard on it, but honestly, it does suck.

I’m just disgusted by the part where the girl finds jiz on the back of her head…. why was that in there? this guy is one sick mofo.
October 23rd, 2007 at 3:28 pm
Seriously though Max, don’t you ever wake up with jiz on the back of your head? Accidents happen!
October 23rd, 2007 at 3:50 pm
ITS NOT JIZZ ITS GLITTER
HELLO
October 24th, 2007 at 12:26 am
I’d sleep with this guy if I wasn’t so embarassed for him.
October 24th, 2007 at 2:16 am
i didn’t really like it, but you know the editing is very good and if the guy did all the music too that’s kinda impressive. it’s takes balls (and maybe a big ego) to put yourself out there for people to anonymously judge from the privacy of their computers. so don’t hate, lol…

IvyGate should take it a little easy with the Harvard bashing… Harvard gets quite some biased treatment on these pages every once in a while.
October 24th, 2007 at 7:18 am
i can’t believe this guy goes to a better ivy than me.
October 24th, 2007 at 4:59 pm
I like the song and the girls, but the jizz scene is too much for me (and my favorite movie is “Happiness,” so that’s saying something.

hahaha, what a joke. does this guy have a high school diploma?
October 24th, 2007 at 11:43 pm
He actually does, from one of the better prep schools in the area. I have a feeling his website and his divas and dons project helped him get into school. How many other applicants had a website with over 10,000 hits?
October 25th, 2007 at 5:02 pm
so i’ve known petros for a long time…even if you don’t like his stuff, you’ve got to admire his drive. this stuff takes a lot of effort, and it honestly wouldn’t surprise me to see him have a very successful and lucrative career in the entertainment industry (although most likely as a producer, not a performer).

Do you guys seriously have nothing better than to insult the looks of Harvard girls and just be downright mean for no good reason? Of course it’s a college video, but could you make it? And, more importantly, you criticize the “attractiveness” of these people, but could you come anywhere close to being in these girls’ leagues? No. Because they’re hot, and you probably aren’t, considering you spend your time posting on a blog rather than getting a life.

Peter Shields is awesome. Though this clearly isn’t high-quality music and production, he’s talented and ambitious to put it together. Don’t player hate.

I met him not long ago. He was really arrogant. If only I had known this was where he got it from…
