Bollinger and NYP Talk Smack Behind A-Jad’s Back

Bollinger and NYP Talk Smack Behind A-Jad's BackBack on the island of Manhattan, Ahmadinejad-gate rolls on. Columbia president Lee Bollinger sat down with 50-odd student leaders yesterday to discuss his decision to allow Iran's resident bad boy, Holocaust-denier, alleged international kidnapper and suspected terrorist-enabler President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on hallowed university grounds. Present at Bollinger's heart-to-heart were representatives from the College Republicans, Hillel, Iranian Students Association, Sikh Association, the Law school, B-school, J-school, and the Spectator (which, despite presence at said event, still managed to have suckier coverage than the Bwog). Apparently some Iranian chick cried, and two politicians have joined the anti-A-Jad fray:

Presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., whose daughter graduated from Columbia last year, denounced the University for inviting Ahmadinejad. "A man who is directing the maiming and killing of Americans troops should not be given an invitation to speak at an American university," he said in a statement.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn issued a similar denunciation. "The idea of Ahmadinejad as an honored guest anywhere in our city is offensive to all New Yorkers," she said in a statement. "He can say whatever he wants on any street corner, but should not be given center stage at one of New York's most prestigious centers of higher education."

Today's New York Post features a column by neo-con John Podhohertz entitled "A Terrorist For Tea" in which J-Pod imagines a conversation between Bollinger and Ahmadinejad. PrezBo talks about hurt Jewish feelings and A-Jad talks about how much he loves American liberals because they are actually terrorists, just like him. J-Pod is extra-qualified to comment on the dangers of mass murder, genocide, and racism because his dad, Norman Podhohertz, wants to nuke Iran and penned a clever little ditty called "My Negro Problem" in Commentary magazine in 1963. Always ahead of the curve, those Podhohertzes.

Thank you for calling out Norman Podhohertz as a genocide advocate. Ahmadinejad is a reactionary theocrat and an enemy of Iranian workers and youth, but none of his crimes even begin to rival those advocated on a daily basis by people like Podhohertz or carried out by their neo-con colleagues. With the latest scientific study estimating that their war against Iraq is responsible for the deaths of 1.2 million people, it is laughable for them to try to ban foreign leaders, however detestable, from trying to speak. There is no reasonable standard that would allow Bush or McCain and not Ahmadinejad to speak.

    p.s. Impressive drawing

I’m back, I’ve got my eye’s on you. Readership commentary seems somewhat low compared to the end of the term last year. I’m sure your viewership will increase. Dave is to kind to the neo-cons. I’ll wait until after the speech and see what y’all have deciphered before I add my own two cents. How enlightened is this years crop ?

“j-pod”? “a-jad”? that’s really fucking annoying. use their names, for christ’s sake.

I’m not inclined to believe Dave when he says “latest scientific study estimating…deaths of 1.2 million.”
But then again, the study’s SCIENTIFIC. Compelling evidence man.

I do not have a problem with Ahmadinejad speaking, but let him speak in any street he wants within the 25 mile radius he is allowed to travel to while in Manhattan. I do have a problem with him being invited to speak at a prestigious institution ( well, not THAT prestigious ) like Columbia. What is there to be learned from him? His views are well known and he is using the forum just to further legitimize his position and I doubt he will be challlenged. Have you ever seen a US President invited to speak at a University in any of our archenemy countries? Some will say that allowing this shows the “strength of our democracy”. Bullshit, just look at around and see what’s happening to us.
I think is time to pee on something.

poisonivylee: You can see for yourself right here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ORB_survey_of_casualties_of_the_Iraq_War. Or you can see the poll data here http://www.opinion.co.uk/Documents/TABLES.pdf.

And yes, moron, there are scientific methods of carrying out polls and surveys and computing estimates for deaths in a total population based on data from a sample.

  8. poisonivylee Says:

Dave, if you give me links that work, I might look into it. Unfortunately these are dead. I know all about surveys and polls; I work at a survey center (yes, it’s miserable work).

Ok, thank’s for the link. Here’s my reply:http://psychoanalystsopposewar.org/blog/2007/09/21/orb-iraq-mortality-poll-to-be-reexamined/

A US President invited to speak at any University outside of America would be speaking at an archenemy country. I personally think it’ll be interesting to hear what Ahmedjindabadadada has to say.

  12. What's the big deal? Says:

Ahmadinejad’s foreign policy views are sane and coherent as compared to Bush’s paranoid schizophrenia.
