Anatomy of a Funny YouTube Posting on a Slow News Day
Hal, Jacob and I are still new on the job, so what better time to get to know each other better! In an effort to increase transparency, I'm going to run through a quick demonstration of how we kill time on slow news days, such as today. Then it's your turn to tell us something personal about you, then we're BFFAE.
Content is always only a few keystrokes away. Follow this simple formula to be an asshole blogger:
1. Find something that is irritating and ubiquitous in the Ivy League. A capella!
2. What Ivy League school have you not written much about? Brown!
3. Find the point where (1) and (2) might intersect. YouTube!
4. Since every answer to (3) is YouTube, search (1) + (2) and click on one of the first four videos. "a capella brown," e.g.
5. Post result of (4) to IvyGate. Spin that shit:
I really, really hate a capella. Now you know something about me!

Post about Dartmouth already.

At least then you’d get good a capella – whoot!
September 14th, 2007 at 3:49 pm
It’s spelled “a cappella”.
Their basses sound thin and don’t resonate.
September 14th, 2007 at 4:14 pm
darn… they are pretty bad!
September 14th, 2007 at 4:35 pm
But I love a cappella! Did I ever tell you I was in one at Cornell? Did I mention Cornell is an Ivy League school? Nobody in Scranton seems to appreciate it.
I also like frisbee golf!

I had to stop watching when the black guy came out to sing those famous first lyrics of “The Lion King”.
I mean, really. The black guy.

Final Cut at Dartmouth is a lot worse, but they thankfully don’t have any videos on Youtube.
September 14th, 2007 at 5:11 pm
wow, i was spelling it wrong and still got this… the possibilities of a cappella postings are endless

THANKS, WE REALLY DODGED A BULLET ON THAT ONE.
September 14th, 2007 at 11:37 pm
What a bunch of idiots!! IT’S BAD ENOUGH WE HAVE WHITE RAPPERS, THANKS FOR DEMONSTRATING WHY WHITE, PRIVILEGED A-CAPPELLA GROUPS CANNOT SING AN AFRICAN SONG TO SAVE THEIR LIVES.

even the Black kid sucks.

Hey Ivygate aka Penn-Troll-Number-One, how about covering some real news, like the sudden resignation of your admissions chief Mr. Stetson, and the rumors of an alleged affair with a current Penn student?
September 15th, 2007 at 3:00 am
dear “I hate how ivygate writers never publish bad stories about their schools,”
ivygate is not, despite its appearances, the weekly world news. we need some way to verify rumors. we will cover the stetson thing if and when it proves to be more than just a rumor.
also, if you read hal and my posts from the summer, princeton really took a hit.

First of all, I’m sure that if Ivygate had any news on the Stetson issue, they’d share it. It’s potentially such a big story that if they knew anything or if there had been any credible articles on it, they’d be insane not to post about it. Because they haven’t, the logical conclusion is clear: THERE’S NOTHING ABOUT IT WORTH POSTING.
And a second comment on the topic: On multiple posts now (at least two I’ve seen), you’ve referenced “rumors of an alleged affair with a current Penn student.” I’ve seen *speculation* on the DP comments board, but rumors? Several vague anonymous comments saying that they’d heard a rumor is hardly newsworthy. So quit whining. If anything happens with it, I’m sure it’ll show up here.

Well, Savage….clearly you got nothing on us. This a cappella thing does not even come closer to the losers from Harvard, Princeton and Cornell videos. Keep it coming .. Brown rocks!!
September 16th, 2007 at 11:53 am
they should get rid of a capella groups all together, there is nothing worse then getting dominated by a prelim and then having to walk through a bunch of assholes saying “hey were singing a capella, you should stay and listen”
It is far and away the worst thing about Cornell, a close second would have to be the student assembly.
September 16th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
keggy – you have clearly never heard mixed company sing shadowland. or any of the white kids in shades.
this group is atrocious. their shoe is screamy and has little if any sense of pitch.
September 19th, 2007 at 1:55 am
that was really disappointing

@dmouth09:
was that meant to be funny?
