Lucy Morrow Caldwell Speaks!
IvyGate's favorite recent character study, Lucy Morrow Caldwell, made an exuberant appearance on CNN's American Morning today to discuss her role in "Caroline Giuliani joined a Facebook group"-gate. CNN's online videos don't have a blog-posting option, but you can watch it here.
One interesting fact to add regards Caldwell's own now-defunct Facebook profile. Facebook actually kicked her off for privacy violations, as the video explains.
Let's just say that if you didn't like her before, we doubt you will now.

It’s hard to hate someone with such an adorable speech impediment…
August 7th, 2007 at 4:59 pm
She looks crazy, her expression is glazed and weird in that way that schizophrenics sometimes look.
August 7th, 2007 at 5:22 pm
how did this ditz get into harvard and not me (sigh)
plus: she ignores the possibility that caroline could have joined the obama group ironically

Hey-
Please watch your language on the comment boards. We love having comments and hearing your takes. While things like “self-serving” are OK, hateful personal attacks are not, and we will delete such comments if we see them.
Thanks,

Wow, all I can say is just… wow. Is this girl for real? “Nobody JOINS a facebook group because they want to support PRINCIPLES”
All I can say is if there is one presidential candidate Caldwell should NOT be pissing off its Rudy. If she uncovered dirt on Tagg Romney, Mitt would just chuckle and say “Gosh oh golly gee!” but Rudy… Rudy won’t screw around with her.
August 7th, 2007 at 5:54 pm
that’s not what she said. she said “nobody joins an obama facebook group.” are you for real, p’09? right…
August 7th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
“No one joins a presidential campaign Facebook group because they want to support various principles.”
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0708/07/ltm.01.html
Read the transcript, H’08.
Of course you join a certain facebook group because you support principles– either that or its because you like John Edwards’ hair or just loved Fred Thompson in Hunt for Red October
August 7th, 2007 at 6:33 pm
Of course she doesn’t regret posting the story. It got her interviewed by CNN!
Geez…doesn’t somebody think they’re special. Talk about textbook passive-aggressive.
August 7th, 2007 at 6:39 pm
“Were you surprised that she voiced support for Barak Obama?”
- What a STUPID QUESTION!! Freakin’ idiotic reporter! And this girl just soiled her name, I’d punch her if I were Caroline.

Doubtful that many of you bashing Lucy actually know her. She’s fun, interesting and a good friend. Furthermore, she adds some much needed diversity of opinion to our dialouge at school. And for anyone questioning “how she got into Harvard,” she’s working in AMERICAN JOURNALISM– her story is perfectly shallow supply to fit the perfectly shallow demand of the typical media consumer.
August 7th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
at 1:48 of the video, only one eye blinks… creepy
August 7th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
09er: The issue at stake is not Lucy’s personal qualities (I have no doubt that she is, as you say, “fun, interesting, and a good friend”). It’s that she regularly skews facts in her pieces and writes about others in a demeaning and hurtful fashion. I have no doubt that she thinks she’s standing up for her beliefs, but the pieces she writes down bolster her arguments, they hack away (with faulty bases) at those of others. As Larry Summers said (I can’t believe I’m quoting him): “the question should never be what you’re against. It should be what you’re for, and what each of us individually can do that is really important and that can make a difference and change the world.”

I love lucy, Lucy you are so cute!!!!!!

Lucy Caldwell once unfriended me on facebook after i wrote on her wall. She refriended me the following day. Hyperactive?
Perhaps she does need a break from facebook. Maybe it will fix the lazy eye and the lisp…
You do have to give it to her, though, that she was quite articulate for a trailer park toting gal from AZ. Double wide, that is.

Anyone else think she looks like Merry Miller of ABC’s “Whats the Buzz”? You know, that interviewer who royally screwed up interviewing Holly Hunter?

She hath a lithp!!! She’th doing a pretty good job covering it up, though. It’th clear she’th taken a lot of thpeech clatheth.

My apologies regarding my first, shocked and appalled comment. I had just seen the video. If she can reign in her recklessness she’ll end up going far in the NYC media business, mark my words. These Ivy columnists, though, man are they ever completely out of control. At least five Spec of last year’s Spec columnists had national coverage of something they’d written–crazy, right? Why do people take them so seriously?
August 8th, 2007 at 9:33 am
Wow. There’s a lot of unhinged commentary here. Folks, if you hate what Lucy says and stands for, say so. Writing without intelligence or information about how she looks or where she comes from does not help your argument.
August 8th, 2007 at 12:55 pm
I find it ironic that many of you are criticizing her for the shallowness of the story and the way she makes point with vicious and very personal (and shallow) attacks.
August 8th, 2007 at 1:52 pm
Every student columnist I’ve run across has been annoying as hell. Like politics and entertainment, it attracts an unsavory sort of people: human moths with a mind-bending (and ethics-warping) attraction to the limelight. If she’s going to be a journalist, best to learn now that her image and ethics will be public fare.
August 8th, 2007 at 2:29 pm
You shouldn’t write off all student columnists. Some are pretty amazing.

Yale’s Chad Callaghan:

well… at least now there is a poster-child for ethics in journalism. perhaps ms. caldwell didn’t apply for the job… but… it seems it is hers. my guess… this story will be used in journalism courses all over the world. what NOT to do. well done, ms. caldwell.
August 8th, 2007 at 4:41 pm
She has good company in most of the Prince columnists. See Johann Loh’s columns from the past few years for some more choice student opinion.
August 8th, 2007 at 5:13 pm
I hate what Lucy says and stands for.
August 8th, 2007 at 9:45 pm
Lena Chen? Is that really you? Lena, it’s your Daddy. I’m sorry I didn’t spend enough time with you when you were younger. Please, I talked to HR and our insurance will cover counseling. But please, I need you to stop writing any more about performing oral sex on men who treat you like a stereo to pause or play at their will. OK? Love you. (Really.) Oh, and other than you, I think all those student columnists are utter shite. But can we agree to disagree?
