Stanford – you guys were founded by a Cornell alum, so butt out! Not your discussion.

Besides, we all know that Brown is the doormat of the league. And nice try Penn – you guys don’t even qualify as the doormat – the rest of us forget you even belong to the league when naming the other schools half the time. In my mind, you’ll always be the state school of Pennsylvania.

I chose Cornell over Yale and Dartmouth, then went on to law school at Harvard and Columbia. When I was a student (1970’s) there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that Penn was the Ivy doormat, with Brown a close second. These things come and go. I’d suggest everyone ease up on the internecine warfare. There are more similarities than differences betweeen the schools. I think Cornell has particular strengths that make it the most classically American university and it’s where I want my children to go, but if they end up preferring Princeton or even Brown, I wouldn’t stop them.

Judging from the comments here, my peers at the other seven Ivies clearly are much classier and more intelligent than us “bumpkins” at Cornell. God forbid our yearbook has a misprint caused by *the company Josten’s* and not the yearbook staff.

The snobbish elitism displayed here is why Ivy League grads are generally despised outside of large cities in the Northeast. We are the largest Ivy League school with 7 colleges. This means we are going to have larger class sizes, and need to accept more students to keep programs afloat. When faced with cutting a major because of lack of students or lowering admissions standards, Cornell chooses to keep its diverse programs intact. Cornell is committed to offering programs in everything from architecture to engineering, labor studies to film, pre-med to fine arts.

Having a large student body studying a breadth of curricula does not make us the “worst Ivy.” Nor does receiving partial funding from NYS as a land grant school (we are not a public university, several of the majors and research programs merely receive grants from New York to supplement scholarly work).

Get over yourselves, Ivy League. Try to act like humans instead of stuck-up, pretentious pricks.

This made me feel so much better! We just recieved our yearbooks at the Academy of Irving ISD…ours reads the Acdemy of Irving ISD. It’s an easy mistake to make using Indesign and reading the print sideways. Thanks for making me feel better, Cornell!!!
