Republican Control of Government Guaranteed for Next Generation
The most important article about politics we've ever read was called "Swimming With Sharks," and it was by Franklin Foer in a September 2005 piece in The New Republic. (It's behind a pay wall, but try clicking here, here and here.) Foer went inside that year's race for chairman of the College Republicans, a $75,000 position for which student candidates backslap, dealmake, fundraise and otherwise do Machiavelli proud. The details of the chicanery are simply too beautiful to go into, but suffice it to say that this system produced Karl Rove, Jack Abramoff, Grover Norquist and others; the highlight is an anecdote of outright deceit by a young Rove, who is actually promoted for his efforts by then-RNC chairman George H.W. Bush.
Getting to the point: after 4,000 words detailing how Republicans learn the basic blocking and tackling of politics -- they practice the "knife-fight" on each other first -- Foer pays a visit to the president of the College Dems. It's a boy who raised $2,000 for his uncontested campaign, or $198,000 less than his GOP counterpart; paid a salary of $0, he makes all his calls after 9 p.m., when his cell phone minutes are free. It's a pathetic comparison, and it explains a lot about the politics of the last quarter-century.
Why do we bring all this up? Because this is what the Harvard Dems do with their time:

Wow. Just wow.

I hear New Haven has better activism…
January 23rd, 2007 at 2:36 pm
i hear that schools for the mentally challenged have more activism than that video shows. christ, harvard, at least try to live up to your reputation and produce something slightly better than this poo nugget.
January 23rd, 2007 at 2:52 pm
I don’t know which is more harmful to a cause, storming onto a stage or producing this video.
“Apple woman is here”?
January 23rd, 2007 at 2:56 pm
“i hear that schools for the mentally challenged have more activism than that video shows.”
Isn’t that what Sam Jackson was saying? : “I hear New Haven has better activism…”
Just a thought.

“It’s a pathetic comparison, and it explains a lot about the politics of the last quarter-century.”
No it doesn’t. Democrats, the former liberals of Europe in the late to end of middle ages, were actually arming, supplying, providing safe-ports, and aiding Muslim terrorist groups to fight the Catholics. No difference here. The Democrats like to see Al Qaeda beat the Republican armies in the Middle East for political reasons as well as their hatred for the individual human being. Nothing has changed. So your statement is false.
Also, So a democrackit person that raises money for their campaign when they are the only one running, meaning they are fleecing their constituents – it’s called stealing. Yeah, it is pathetic. Start to practice knife-fighting without aiding the Muslims.

re: woblages
Did you take history from Mel Gibson? You make it sound like Democrats are the illuminati plotting the downfall of Christendom. “Liberal” is practically an Enlightenment concept; these shadowy terrorism-enablers of the Middle Ages you call “liberal” don’t exist and wouldn’t be called liberal even if they did. The absurdity of your impromptu historical fantasy aside, what does this have to do with a video of a giant apple pelting Republicans with smaller apples?
January 23rd, 2007 at 6:24 pm
More accurately:
Woblages- Politics aside, you sound like a douchebag. And an undereducated inflammatory bag-a-douche at that. Stop spewing rhetoric and enjoy the inanity of this horribly edited bizzare video.
January 23rd, 2007 at 6:55 pm
Huh, and all this time I thought that the right thing for student political organizations to do was to some sort of political activism, you know, like we do here at Yale. Obviously I was wrong. I’d better go make sure everyone stops working on petitions so we can make a toolish video too.
January 23rd, 2007 at 7:12 pm
because petitions are really effective and cutting edge…
January 23rd, 2007 at 10:40 pm
And why do you think f*cking John Heinz-Kerry lost and Al Bore did not fight til the death to up hold the popular vote. Death to democratic apologists!

Why would you introduce an article as “The most important article about politics we’ve ever read” and then link to three separate copies of it, each inaccessible to a broke college student?
That’s just cruel.
January 24th, 2007 at 11:50 am
The video took us 40 minutes to produce. We spend hundreds of hours campaigning. Everyone on this blog needs to get a life.
Toodles.
January 24th, 2007 at 3:48 pm
The article was good (albeit depressing). I was able to access it through my school’s library subscription. Perhaps try that, 24602?
January 24th, 2007 at 5:15 pm
guy, it doesn’t matter how long you spent on the video. what matters is that you actually thought the concept was funny enough that other people would want to watch it. you and your friends are like the retards who can’t sing worth shit but think they’re going to be the next american idol.
January 24th, 2007 at 6:30 pm
Go be an asshole somewhere else. People make stupid videos all the time to entertain themselves and their friends. I fail to see how that makes them retards.
January 24th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
It doesn’t. But defending yourself and your shitty video on blog comment boards sure does.
January 25th, 2007 at 11:02 am
whatev ppl. you watched it, you linked to it. you waste hours wanking off to Daily Kos, and we waste hours making videos to entertain our members (not you, fyi). i know which I prefer. incidentally, we phonebanked, door knocked, and did all sorts of “activist” stuff that you only have wet dreams about. check out http://www.harvarddems.com to get your f-ing facts straight. and yeah, we’re so retarded that we’re laughing our way to Harvard degrees. Get a life, or at least an education. :-)
January 25th, 2007 at 11:26 am
I know that saying this is kind of hypocritical:
Do any of you really give a shit?
January 25th, 2007 at 3:26 pm
Oh yeah. I really wish I was at Harvard. Over a third of you graduate virgins. What a great school that is. Really prepares you for later life…
January 25th, 2007 at 3:51 pm
har-who?: Where do you get your stats, and what is your standard of comparison? And although I am sure that the loss of one’s virginity is an absolute prerequisite for a brilliant career in prostitution, we at Harvard may have other plans in mind.

Did the people in the Harvard Dems ride the short bus? Oh wait….all people at harvard rode it.
January 27th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
So is it just a little bit odd that these creators of the video care so much about it that they’re flaming the critics so much? Video creators, why don’t you stop taking yourself so seriously and realize that spending “hundreds of hours campaigning” makes about no difference in the outcome of elections?
You knocked on, what, 5,000 doors in Rhode Island, right? Say you ended up getting through to a fifth of those that you talked to (that’s probably generous), so you got 1,000 votes for Whitehouse. How much did he win by? About 27 times that. And using the logic of the argument of “well every vote counts in a democracy” doesn’t work because that’s like someone being that self-righteous just about submitting their one vote.
You guys aren’t that important, you don’t make that much of a difference. Get over yourselves and you may be respected and liked by the Mass College Dems and Harvard.
January 27th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
Bunker Hill Community College rules and Harvard sucks and everything that comes out of Harvard is a ‘poo nugget’ dropped from the buttholes of virgins! Plus I heard somewhere a lot of Harvard students are self-important! Also they’re virgins! Also my college is best!
Imagine how much better the world would be if Karl Rove had spent his college years making videos like these and less time absorbing cynical political corpsefucking by osmosis from the College Republicans? YouTube, you came too late …

People make stupid videos all the time to entertain themselves, but once they put it on the internet, it stopped being for their own sake. The video is then open to praise and scrutiny. Don’t tell me I can’t applaude or criticize what someone made public.

As a republican, I would like to thank the makers of that video…if that is what my party is up against in the future then it looks like the whole map will be red soon.
