Barbara Bush Displays Remarkable Commitment to Drinking

Barbara Bush Displays Remarkable Commitment to Drinking

Spotted at Saturday's Yale-Princeton game in New Haven: Barbara Bush '04, in top form. A stalker tipster writes in with exclusive pics:

Barbara Bush Displays Remarkable Commitment to DrinkingBabs, recently back from lounging on the beaches of South Africa, er, I mean, kissing HIV orphans, strolling around the student tailgate in a tunic dress, tights, knee-high boots (dark sunglasses, natch) with on-again boyfriend Jay Blount (Yale '05), chain-smoking at the SigEp tailgate with a red cup in her back pocket and a drink always in her hand, surrounded by drooling Republicans and Thetas.

Maybe we're just not familiar with "tunic dresses," but take a closer look at that back pocket technique. Extraordinary! That's true Bush-caliber commitment to drinking.

  6. Thomas Smith Says:

This is so NOT important. It’s not news it’s just plain gosip.

Life long Democrat from Oregon :(

  7. Russ Says:

The article did not mention what was in the cup.

  8. stinkyboy Says:

    I guess she’s pursuing what she’s good at…

  9. greg Says:

I find I give less than half a damn.

  10. MrSanfran Says:

I have always wondered, where are the secret service when she wants to bone?

  11. Austin Says:

I’m a Democrat. I’m a drinker. Nothing wrong with Babs on this one. Hey, wouldn’t you booze it up at a tailgate if your father just had the worst week of his life? Maybe as a “let’s drink this one for pops”-like celebration? Regardless, she may be a lot of things, but for someone in their young 20s to get drunk at a football game, no matter who their father is, is perfectly okay. I feel there’s a lot more things to go after than this stupid piece…I still can’t stop laughing at every Ted Haggard story, so you guys should pump that death and let Princess Bush get wasted in piece

  12. demo2 Says:

what a bunch of hypocrites you are

  13. Robbul Says:

How do we know that’s not just a spit cup?

  14. tablogloid Says:

Austin, wasted in pieces, you mean. Don’t know any Bush family members for peace.

  15. ted V. Says:

I’m sure I was a lot more drunk on Saturday than she was. Booze is still legal right? Hate the Dad but she’s a good looking gal with booze in her pocket. Two of my favorite things combined. A woman after my own heart. America the beautiful.

  16. Devon B. Says:

I dislike the Bushies as much as the rest of you, but come on! She’s over 21, wasn’t driving, or doing anything illegal. Give it a rest already.

  17. Johnny Roqhard Says:

I would pay serious money to drop a nutload into her cashbox.

  18. Louis Gonzales Says:

NO HATERS! GENERAL CONSENSUS…PARTY ON BABS!

  19. Mark Says:

Totally distasteful on your part. Leave the woman alone. I am a long-time alternet fan, but your choice to run that article and those pics sickens me. He father is a horrible person, but that has nothing to with her. She has the right to live her life without being spied upon. Horrible move on your part.

  20. demsgo Says:

As someone noted earlier, we don’t know what’s in the cup. However, if she is drinking, I don’t regard Barbara’s drinking the same as any other college age person. She is the child of two untreated alcoholics, and as such is at much greater risk than the average joe.

  21. tyd Says:

hahaha whatever, she’s a public figure like it or not, so making fun of her drinking is just as acceptable as mocking K-Fed. on the flip side, though, she was significantly less drunk than the majority of yale.

  22. matt hinterlong Says:

You drink Coors Light at Yale. WTF! That’s shit beer. Bring on the Natty! Go Dores!

  23. eric ruby Says:

has anyone seen Barbara Bush’s beach shot of her taking off her panties? it’s hilarious. Just google Barbara Bush or Bush Twins. You’ll die laughing.

  24. eric ruby Says:

CORRECTION! Sorry, google in images either “Jenna Bush” or “fishy in bush”
that will take you right to it!

  25. Frank Says:

another life long Dem here, this is not news. Dislike the father, as I do, but his kid drinking at a football game is not important. Leave her alone

  26. GG Says:

Who cares what Bush’s daughters are doing? Why shouldn’t they be drinking beer? Has this country moved so far to the right that it helps the far right press to through even more fog over everything?

  27. Eddie Says:

I find it completely disgusting that while her peers are getting smeared all over the map in Iraq and Afghanistan, NotJenna is living the high life, boozing it up at Ivy League football games and basically acting like a trust-fund brat.

  28. Smiling Politely Says:

Really, you should take this shit down. I hate Bush as much as the next guy, but c’mon… leave his kids out of it. What college student doesn’t drink at social gatherings? Don’t stoop to Limbaugh’s level.

  29. rydell Says:

She’s not acting like a trust-fund brat; she’s acting like a recent alum returning to a weekend tailgate, much like 90% of recent college alums when they return to campus. I’m a dem, too. No big deal that she was doing this.

  30. Dr. Donald B. MacGowan Says:

    Hmmmm……

Adult Child of Alcoholics gets drunk? How very surprising. I winder if Babs The Lesser is even aware of the mental illness called “Adult Child of Alcoholics Syndrome”. You;’d think she’d have been burnded bad enough by Daddies despicable behavior when whe was younger to “recoil as if from a hot stove” from alcohol–sadly this is not the case with many ACOA in general, her in particular.

While I liked the sentiment about the Bush family in general expressed earlier by Nas T (”…garbage in, garbage out…”) what concerns me is the fact that here we have two untreated, unrepentant, unrecovered drunks–sober to be sure, but no recovery whatsoever–running the country and as First Lady.

Nobody who ever spent a minute in rehab, went to an AA meeting or is a substance abuse councilor would be in the least surprised that out country is running up unimaginable and irrespoinsible debts, is at war by mistake or fraud, and is not getting along at all with any of its historical friends…being led by an unrecovered, dry drunk, our country is on a dry drunk.

Predictable as it is lamentable, but there it is.

As I say almost daily on my blog (no, don’t bother, it’s not that good): “Visualize Impeachment”.

  31. Steamboater Says:

The daughter isn’t responsible for policy; her father is.Focus on the asshole in the White House and leave his daughter alone.

  32. Nodding Politely Says:

Don’t listen to these guys, Barbara…stay the course. Go blue!

  33. Frank G Says:

The apple does not fall from the tree.. or the berry from the BUSH..

  34. Eddie Says:

No, rydell. She’s acting like a spoiled brat. Period.
How do you think our soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan feel about the antics of the daughters of the man who put them in harm’s way? A man who, by the way, also shirked his duties when it was his generation’s time to serve?

  35. gets it Says:

that cup in her dress is her own private urinal

  36. Treshan Says:

why does huffington post even care? omg, a college sorority chick drinking? wow. big front page news. there are plenty of other salient issues that could have received face time instead of this trash. but i guess that’s just the incompetence of all (lib and conservative) media.

  37. xt Says:

This is pretty distasteful… Anyone has a right to enjoy themselves at a football game. I would be hoping that IvyGate would have a better sense of what counts as news.

  38. Ronald Hernandez Says:

Does this prove Einstein’s theory of relativity? Like father, like daughter?

  39. owl Says:

Ted V. must’ve been drunk when he wrote this:

    “She’s a good looking gal”

She looks like a conehead Posh Spice.

  40. Jeff Boyle Says:

I think a lot of people here defending Ms. Bush are missing the point. While tens of thousands of soldiers are risking their lives in Iraq, Ms. Bush is spending her time at beer blasts. She should go fight the war her father refers to as a “noble cause.” She’s another Bush coward.

  41. Bigby Says:

The point is her father, the oh so wonderful born again Christian who never lets booze touch his sanctified lips has a cult of followers who literally liken him to Jesus Christ who can Do No Wrong. It’s time (well, 6 yrs ago was the time) to pound it into their skulls that these Bushes are Just Like Everyone Else and people should wake up and stop worshipping them as Gods. Every sign the Twins are boozy little party girls, Laura is a valium popping Stepford Wife and Bush is a dry drunk is a nail in their sanctimonious coffin. People should stop pointing out their behavior when they stop pretending their behavior is exemplary and untouchable
and that we should give them power and riches because they are ‘better’
than us; they are demonstrably NOT. It’s FAIR GAME to point out hubris
and hypocrisy from these elitist aristocrats.

  42. Elaine Hodges Says:

Wow, a young woman at a tailgate party before a ballgame…….Jeff Boyle, have you been to a game or a dinner recently? Why aren’t YOU in Iraq? Same for you Owl…..have You had a beer recently? Eddie, how is she a “spoiled brat?” Are your daughters serving? Are you? You folks are really disgusting.

  44. Lia Says:

When are these girls going to Iraq? I’ll enlist and go when the twins go.

  45. elaine hodges Says:

    your site is malicious.

  46. El Bicho Says:

Wow, you guys need to get over yourselves. She’s drinking at a tailgate. BFD. When did that rise to a capital offense? And what’s this about her fighting in Iraq? It’s a volunteer army, so what’s stopping her detractors from going over there? I don’t like hre father, but you are a bunch of pathetic hypocrites.

  47. Bush Says:

Isn’t she underage? Why is she drinking? How do these girls get drinks with SS around? does their father condone undergae drinking? Are the Bushs above the law?

  48. Leo A. Says:

When I cought my daughter drinking beer when she was 13, I didn’t give her hell for drinking, but for her choice-MillersLite. UGH!

  49. Erin Says:

Like most Yale alum her familys money bought her a seat at a name school. Why should we assume that she is driven or intelligent? The only guy I knew who went to Yale was an asshole who would shove his hand in my blouse and demand to know where I purchased my clothing from… Repeatedly. So much for his big education. He was a real labels conscious status seeker. His name was Charles “Axel” Allen.

  50. mark Says:

I hope everyone here is a college grad, and learned how to spell during their 4 years of “higher” education, especially Austin. The phrase is, “…wasted in PEACE,” not piece. Party on.

  51. CEO Says:

Looks like bab’s butch friend carries a wallet. Babs is checking out what the nipple sare like.

  52. RepubHater Says:

Republicans should all be killed. Why do they exist at all? To bring misery and despair to humanity?

  53. CaliGirl Says:

These republicans are all so out of shape and doughy. You’d think she could afford a few sessions at mystic tan.

  54. dead last Says:

Drinking, schminking. Who cares? I am alarmed that our First Princess has poorly constructed seams on her outfit. Has America fallen so far that our royalty cannot wear minimally maintained clothing? My heart goes out to her in what must be a truely embarassing moment.

  55. donviti Says:

what’s the big deal? she is over 21 right? It isn’t like she is gay and out defending her dad (Dick Cheney)

Her dad is a dick but it doesn’t mean she has to be straight laced. We know he is a hypocritcal piece of shit, so should we be surprised when his kids act like normal college aged kids?

  56. Jimmy of Nazareth Says:

Just another drunken worthless piece of shit, just like her father

  57. limey Says:

She’s entitled to drink. It’s only that her family and their cronies are the ones who make such a deal about OTHER PEOPLE’s “values”, that’s all.
If she weren’t part of a long line of hypocrites, no one would care that one more 25 year old drinks.

  58. Jay Says:

    This made me laugh

“This is pretty distasteful… Anyone has a right to enjoy themselves at a football game. I would be hoping that IvyGate would have a better sense of what counts as news.”

I doubt the multitude of posts even come from regular readers of this blog. First, they all sound the same. Second, this item is in line with the other “news” this site offers — mildly amusing gossip from around the Ivies. Either you find it useless like Cally Fiedorek of Yale, or you’re like me, looking for some entertaining items about the world of the Elite Eight.

  59. Litz Says:

Perhaps she’s getting tips from the inventor of the “Beer Wrangler,” John Frist:

    http://www.wonkette.com/politics/facebook/john-frist-beer-wrangler-178678.php

  60. crick Says:

In most cases I would agree with those arguing to leave her alone on this

    BUT

She and sis were rolled out, all preened and packaged, for the 2004 campaign. Since the image projected was much different from this, all expectations of privacy are off.

  61. Robbie-Rob Says:

What bothers me is that nowhere on this page does it mention the very important part of the story, that PRINCETON defeated Yale 34-31, maintaining an 8-1 record and making this season the first time in 12 years that Princeton has beaten both Harvard and Yale in football!!! Perspective, people.

Otherwise, great job posting these photos!

  62. Chris Says:

what college age student doesn’t drink at a tailgate… this is rediclous (not to mention that she is well over 21)

  63. sam Says:

honestly, i don’t care whether the young bushes drink. we’re democrats, not religious wacko’s opposed to fun. leave the poor girls alone – don’t you think it is bad enough to have a father like theirs!

  64. earthly stoner Says:

Can anyone explain to me why it is that you can legaly drink as much alcohol as your liver will allow and still become president but a single dooby can ruin your life? Wasn’t herb created by God, and is perfectly natural while alcohol is the by product of rotten fruit or grains.

  65. Bobby Says:

Come on folks! just because her father screwed up the empire..uhh, I mean republic, doesn’t mean she is fair game. Let her get a buzz on without ridicule.

  66. Ginger Winchester Says:

Can you imagine what it must be like to be a Bush daughter? You are either better off being a b*tch, because it’s expected of you. Or, you try to deny your identity to others and run away to another country seeking anonymity among thick crowds, hoping some wingnut somewhere doesn’t spot you. Or worse: you are worry that you’ll be taken hostage by one of daddy’s or Cheney’s sicko cronies who will try to create an international crises, in hopes of another Bush-GOP ratings-saving 9/11-type event in the name of “saving our country”, thus sending America into Martial Law “for our own good”.

I think I’d be drunk all the time if I had to live with these guys in my family.

    Oh the agony…

  67. Luis A. del Valle Says:

Unfair and Tasteless, Perfect for Huffingtonpost.

  68. andy phx Says:

who the f cares? just because her dad is an evil, greedy, bastard doesnt mean that its open season on the bush twins! they are young kids that seemingly like to party. big deal. thats not a character flaw for gods sake!!! just lay off of them. and to those that think theyre open to criticism because they were visible during the 2004 campaign, so was chelsea. did that give that asshole right wing, idiot reported her to call chelsea ‘ugly’? no it didnt. so get a f-ing life already!!

  69. Jay Says:

I will do her! She drinks beer what else can you ask.

  70. mike Says:

    this article is for real?!

I thought everyone knew that at a kegger, or tailgate party.. everyone usually gets ONE cup that they have to hold on to for the event… otherwise you go through a million cups… also noticed this cup doesn’t appear to be full, or even half full (weight on the pocket would be too much).

Finally, who gives a flying eff?

You people better hope that Hillary doesn’t run for pres… because I heard all kinds of things about Chelsea getting pictures taken of her smoking a phat blunt (weed)… so it will be interesting to see how the author of this story– i mean author of this intellectual drivel, treats Chelsea in about a year.

  71. M.R. Richardson Says:

No one ever drank in college or high school before the Bush Kids? So what, move on, find something serious or interesting to post. Pioty is not a becoming trait.

  72. ben Says:

Lay off the young girls drinking shtick unless you are a real teetotaler yourself. Unbelievable. Bush Admin is plenty of a freakshow to rip on mercilessly without dragging kids into it.

  73. Jimmy of Nazareth Says:

She’s as fair game as her worthless, traitorous dog of a father (?) feels that the lives of thousands of our less affluent countrymen are fair game to be sent to their deaths or maimed.
Jay, everybody’s been doin her. Take her flat faced sister, she’s a real mutt. Nobody’s touched her.

  74. mg Says:

The Bush brats are fair game since they campaigned for their father in ‘04 as adults. They are trashy and irresponsible and their behavior makes me sick, especially in light of the carnage their father has wrought in Iraq and their lack of any sense of responsibility for the war they have endorsed but do not feel inclined to participate in. Real tacky garbage.

  75. RecoveringRepub Says:

This is definately news. Bush and the first family are always news. All you people who write comments about how this “isn’t news” or “who gives a f*ck” or “move on”….if it isn’t news and you don’t give a f*uck, why bother to click on the link, read the post, look at the photos and then leave a comment? I mean, if it’s not important to you, why did you take the time in the first place? Move on…..

  76. mudderfudder Says:

I wonder if the Bushes have a hidden trailer park up there in Kennebunkport? If she can carry a beer she can carry a gun. Sign her up and ship her out!

  77. Carjo Says:

For all you “leave Bush’s kids out of it”, I trust you were staunchly defending every jab at Chelsea Clinton that came down the Republican pike back in her day..

  78. edsel Says:

Didn’t you ever party and drink when you were in college? Don’t get me wrong I can’t stand the sight of her father. But leave the chic alone and let her enjoy her youth

  79. bobbygoode Says:

Excuse me. EXCUSE ME. This kid IS news. Her actions represents the hypocrisy of this President. There is a responsibility as a member of the first family, even if it’s raunchy P.R., to advance positive values — not be seen blithely sucking down brewskies at an Ivy League game while members of her generation are dying in this “noble cause” in Iraq which her father undertook. Beyond that, of course she is not responsible for her father’s horrors. But can the entire Bush family display a semblance of decorum? I mean the old Bag’s comments at the Astrodome about the victims of Katrina… the brother scoring on “No Child Left Behind”… Jeb helping steal the 2000 election and advancing the Terri Schiavo crap. Enough of these people! The Kennedy kids (and Ted) would get stoned, too, but their service and that of their parents to our nation has been a little bit more monumental.

  80. bobbygoode Says:

  81. Sodom Says:

Please send one of the Bush daughters to inspect the weapon of mass destruction inside my trousers.

  82. edsel Says:

You have a valid point bobby I still think if his daughter is in college and wants to have 2 beers in each back pocket go ahead have fun. I can’t imagine what it would be like to be the son or the daughter of the president it has to, so suck. Especially the daughter of the worst ever. I’d probably have two in the back pocket and a flask in my hand.

  83. Durwood Says:

I’m a proud Democrat and no fan of her old man, but I believe Bush’s childrens’ lives ought to be thier own. The press should leave all politicians’ kids alone, for that matter. Barbara’s all grown up. What’s wrong with a beer or two, anyway?

  84. Slap Weesie Says:

You could have atleast post a shot of her ass. Let that broad drink in peace. Her dad just had his ass handed to him on a platter.

    I’d hit it!!!!

  85. sly independent Says:

I didn’t give a shit about Gores kid I REALLY don’t give a mierde about drunken Bush siblings. She’s in college right? She’s legal right? Their parents being sanctimonious hypocrites aside, honestly…….I don’t give a mierda.

  86. Lauren the Fish Says:

I remember objecting to the Repubz giving Chelsea an undeserved hard time, so to say anything about the Deciderator’s kids would be kinda hypocritical, y’know?

They didn’t exactly choose W for a father. Makes me feel a little sorry for those girls, knowwhatimean?

  87. Richard Says:

Another Democar here….whats in the cup? Not a damn person here knows..is it water..is itPepsi? Or is it beer which she is certainly entitled and of legal age to drink?
    This crap sucks…

  88. Mr. Murder Says:

She has to carry her own cup, she fell for that ruthie trick ONE TIME, and Mary Cheney poured that Coors Light for her.

    Is our children learning?

  89. DonnyOsmond Says:

What’s with her anatomy? Shouldn’t there be an ass cheek where that cup is?

  90. Sean Says:

All the republicans pretending to be democrats are funny in a scummy way. All the bleeding hearts who agree with them are funny in a retarded way.

These greedy alcoholic scumbags have slaughtered a generation of Muslims, a generation of Americans, and held the progress of the whole of humanity back by years. The damage the republicans have done to America, to its interests, it’s legal and judicial system, and its education system, will take years to repair.

Watch that 911 movie by Michael Moore again and you’ll see another republican sow wearing sunglasses at work harassing that chick with the dead soldier son.

  91. Joker Says:

I think politicians kids should be off limits. They didn’t ask to be the offspring of either Democrat or Republican politicians. I though Rush Limbaugh referring to Chelsea Clinton as a “dog” was reprehensible. Those kids do nothing to affect anyone’s life but their own. We should leave the kids alone and concentrate on the people in power, who are really screwing this country up.

  92. Stuck in Philthy Says:

Well, I for one am outraged. How can you sleep at night? Just goes to show your liberal, Jew-run media-bias when you attack Dubya’s kids for legally tailgating while choosing not to post those photos of Amy Gutmann and Chelsea Clinton dressed up as suicide bombers and blowing rails at the Harvard-Penn game that are floating around the Internet. For shame, IvyGate. For shame.

  93. Old School Says:

Leave the kids alone. ALL of them, Bill’s kid, Dumbya’s kids, all of them. They are not responsible for the hatred their parents have garnered. Attacking your enemies children, as opposed to attacking your enemy, is a cowardly thing.

  94. NYC-ya Says:

If you want to talk about inappropriate drinking can we say Chapaquitic?? Killing a woman and then taking a 10 hour nap before reporting it to police- and Ted got a couple of months community service. People in glass houses…

  95. Jimmy of Nazareth Says:

I don’t know about saying it, but you sure can’t spell it.

  96. owl Says:

To Elaine Hodges- You said: “Owl…have You had a beer recently?”

Since when did I criticize her for drinking? All I did was point out that her head looks like it was made in a Play-Doh extruder. Jeez, I have no problem with drinking.

  97. Livy Liv Liv Says:

Seriously, now, you’re all taking this too damn seriously!!! Nobody is condemning her for drinking, and IvyGate is not trying to pretend that this is news. It is gossip, like much of the site, and we’re making fun of her for carrying an effin red cup in the back pocket of her dress while she has another cup in her hand. I mean, WTF??? I really don’t know why you have to read politics into that. She looks stupid with the 2 cups, therefore we make fun. Simple as that. now if only she were Aleksey, she could carry a whole keg in her back pocket!

  98. dhf Says:

Give her a break! Having W as her dad has probably driven her to drink. If he were my dad, I would be in an opium den in Amsterdam until 08.

  99. Lysol Says:

Sure she’s legal now but we all know these girl started long before being legal. Remember Jenna in the TX bar a few years ago? Why do these people get to be above the law? Why do we have to leave spare them anything. Bush will send our sons and daughters to die in Iraq but we can’t make a jab at his butt ugly bitches for being drunk hos? Poor Barb I feel so sorry fo the poor thing.Do you think she sheds a tera for the kids who die in Iraq as she’s gulping down that beer? Don’t you people get that these Bushs aren’t like us? They have never lived as ordinary citizens. They feel that we are beneath them. That we should die for their righteous cause wheile they enjoy saturday afternoon at a tailgate. Why the fuck isn’t the bitch in Iraq if they beliv in their cause? Why aren’t any children of these people in Iraq? You honestly think she’s at Yale because she’s smart like her daddy? She didn’t mind her familys name when it got her into a prestigious school why should she have the option to mind it now?

  100. Mark Says:

What I remeber most about the twins campaingn for their father was their babbling about watching Sex and the City. Right there on at the podium of the Republican National Convention!! These girls aren’t very bright and this behavior is in line with their character. You’d think they’d say something to inspire the youth of America but no it was just- I like Sex and the City blah blah blah blah. I kept waiting for them to say something smart but they never did get around to it.

  101. Livy Liv Liv Says:

Stop bitching about her father and how she so privileged, already. There are plenty other trust-fund kids at Ivies who are probably more spoiled than she is, and many, many more students who earned their way to the Ivy by merit. So, no she’s not emblematic of Ivy students, and why does it matter so much that she’s not in Iraq? very few Ivy students (from the trust-fund babies to the 100% financial aid kids) have or will ever join the armed forces.

  102. Dom Says:

Rush Limbaugh called Chelsea Clinton a dog?????????!!!!!!!! Where have I been? Wow talk about glass houses.

  103. Lysol Says:

Well Livy Liv Liv it matters because her daddy is the one sending other peoples kids to Iraq? Get it fool?

  104. Erin Says:

Very few people get into these schools by merit. It takes money above intelligence to go to an Ivy thus the assumption that these people are necessarily intelligent is false. Although obviously it is possible that they might be. For example you will not be accepted at Yale regardless of your intelligence if you spent your formative years attending an average public school in suburbia. Of course if you went to Such and Such Prep and are of average or low intelligence and require no financial aid you will slide in with ease. I used to imagine that Ivy leaguers might be intelligent people until I met one Charles “Axel” Allen of Yale University, a sexual predator and closet homosexual, who regularly thrust his hands into ladies blouses so that he may judge a woman’s value by the name on her garments. Now I didn’t go to Yale but I know enough to know not to go shoving my hands down ladies clothing demanding to know where they shop, whatever the hell I am. Honestly I though such a highly regarded education was so supposed to make you an independent thinker not to mention civilized. Apparently not.

  105. Yale 07 Says:

Erin, I’m a Yalie who spent my formative years attending an average public school in Southern California suburbia. I know a great number of public school kids who aren’t rich nor legacies here.

    Please don’t generalize.

  106. Erin Says:

Where in the subarbs know as Beverly Hills? Might as well be Such and Such a prep. When I say suburbia I mean average suburia.

  107. Erin Says:

  108. Kevin Says:

Yeesh. What the heck did she do to anybody to deserve being so publicly disparaged? I don’t like her father any more than anyone else, but I don’t think attacking a girl for the the sins of her father is at all decent.

I guess Chelsea got similar immature treatment from conservatives. I just would like to believe that the left is generally a bit better than the rednecks on the right, but maybe you guys are proving me wrong.

  109. Harvard Alum Says:

Wowza…I really wonder if the people who are posting on this blog know what it is. I’d like to think that IvyGate is an equal opportunity offender, if the ‘news’ is moderately related to the Ivies. Oh yeah, Erin, I know plenty of kids who are neither trustfund babies nor prepster nor Beverly Hill suburbanites at Harvard. I went to a public high school in the suburb that was too poor to even have a band (insert sad violin music here). Over 70% of kids at Harvard get financial aid. Your unfortunate brush with ONE Yalie cannot be used to generalize the majority of decent folks. Then again, Yale sucks (I mean, please please please come to the H-Y game. We’d even host you in the sheds out back. Love, The Crimson.)

  110. Trust-funds? Says:

Since when do you need a trust-fund to drink beer at a tailgate? You people have got to be joking. You’re obviously not college students. Furthermore, criticizing someone for enjoying themselves when people are dying is ridiculous.

  111. Absurd Says:

How does a girl drinking at a tailgate represent hypocrisy? There’s nothing illegal about tailgating. There’s nothing immoral about tailgating. Just because people are over in Iraq doesn’t mean we need to spend every waking moment in a candlelight vigil singing kumbaya.

  112. Erin, get a clue Says:

Erin, take a look at the admissions statistics for Ivy League schools. Take a look at average High School GPA. Take a look at average SAT. Take a look at average class standing. Then take a look at financial aid statistics. You are so incredibly incorrect on the issue of merit and the ivies that the only explanation is you’re a jealous Tufts student. Better luck with grad school!

  113. This is disappointing Says:

Lysol, has George W Bush enacted a conscription policy? No? You mean he’s only been deploying troops who signed on for active duty? He hasn’t forced anyone into anything, so don’t act like he’s a hypocrite because he didn’t force his daughter into anything.

I had always assumed that this blog was primarily read by other Ivy League students who wanted to laugh at themselves and each other. The arguments here suggest otherwise.

  114. Livy Liv Liv Says:

Just because her father is, in my opinion, a shitty leader, doesn’t she has to volunteer to suffer the consequences of his decisions. She has as much right as anyone else to enlist or not enlist in the army. Her father’s the hypocrite. She’s just looking like an idiotic alcoholic with her cup in her back pocket.

  115. manassasman Says:

The Bush kids can’t possibly be as spoiled by their parents as their father. Old Lady Bush and Poppy must have let their young hellion run absolutely WILD, contributing to his utter lack of class, education, ability to handle language, press conferences, etc…Can’t you just imagine HIM swapping places with Tony Blair during Prime Minister’s Question Time in Commons? Man, what an absolute scream that would be! Just like Ralph Kramden trying to explain himself to Alice, I’d bet! Personally, I don’t really give as much a rat’s ass what his kids do anymore than I care about Tom Cruise and his wife-to-be. For me, life has other things which we should be worrying about! I actually pity the Bush kids for having such a complete fool for a father!

  116. christianarchisti Says:

harsh commentary in abundance, I wonder how in the future my own children will be regarded, highly I hope. Do you think me going home to smoke Durban will prejudice your bias ?

  117. KungPow Says:

Barb is hot!! Where da azz shotz at ???

  118. mark Says:

harsh commentary indeed and mucho distorted wacko thinking! why do they overly worry about some one elses kids? amazing….any chance to sound off on the internet..big deal!

  119. War4Sale Says:

If your father was the worst president in American history, you’d be a lush, too!

  120. Erin Says:

    Dear Tufts student,

The assertion you’ve made that I am “jealous” of your “education” is exactly the sort of empty headed pompous baffonery I was referring to in my previous remarks. You sound like the racist asshole (Charle “Axel” Allen charles@webmethods.com) that shoved his had down my clothes and demanded to know where I shop. Is that what their teaching at Yale/Tufts University these days? So much for your big brains and your Ivy education. I’d like to add that throwing your education around and assuming everyone is jealous of you is really ugly and desperate.
    Thanks

  121. Thornhill Says:

Dr. MacGowan makes good points about Adult Children of Alcoholics. Another professional, a family therapist, writes that her great-grandfather, Prescott Bush, a “falling down drunk,” was also an acoholic like his grandson, 43. She seems to come to her predilections via at least two generations in the Bush family, each being owned by assorted addictions.

  122. Geofry Stovall Says:

I believe the girl is old enough to do about anything she pleases and besides, we don’t know what was in the cup now do we? So who cares anyway?

  123. BJG Says:

Would you have enlisted if 18 year old Chelsea Clinton enlisted when her father dragged the US into the Kosovo war? (And that is a no – Chelsea Clinton did not enlist)

  124. Nikki Says:

Leave the girl alone! She like many other college students/grads likes to have a drink. Who cares? Why make a big deal out of nothing? Who cares if she is the presidents daughter and she has a drink? Do you expect her not to have a life, enjoy the same things that you and I enjoy and take advantage of the same things just because she is the publics eye. Unfortunately for her, the rest of her life will be public and she will never have her privacy. If you get upset over the fact that she has a drink like normal people do, do you get upset over the fact that she takes a shower, eats with a fork like the rest of us. Heaven forbid is she got caught buying something from Walmart what you people would do or say about the girl.

  125. Stewart Allen Says:

    She is one ugly chick.
